  • ive just bought a tubless kit too, im thinking of just using my normal 2.1 maxxis crossmark exception series tyres, do you think it will still work fine with that? there folding and they have a thin carcass?

I just got my ZTR Flow/Hope Pro II wheels today, ordered the basic NoTubes kit (the one with just the 25mm wide yellow tape, couple of valves and small bottle of sealant).

Wasn't sure which route to go with on tyres but then found some great prices on a pair of TLR Bontrager's (2.35 XR4 for the front, 2.1 XR2 for the rear).

Will report back on my first tubeless venture next week when I get it all together.

Yeah, a mate of mine has been using those tubeless for a while on his race bikes, they've been fine. Might want a bit of extra sealant though.

I've been testing WTB Mutano 2.2 TCS for WMB, very good tyre, but limited acvailabilty it seems.

Are loads of tyre and tube options out there, just got to weigh up the pros and cons for your riding.

Personally if going to use sealant, I would not bother with UST.

How do those size up? I was pretty miffed at the mutanoraptor, I wanted a big volume tyre for the back of the Mmmbop so I got the 2.4 but it's so undersized I had to check the side and see if it said Maxxis on it.

  • Just an update on my DIY tubeless.

Have been using it for a few months now and probably well over 1000km.
    Its been fantastic.
The only minor point is that if I try to run much below 28psi AND do serious rocky downhill then I can expect to see some sealing goo stains around the tyre bead where it has obviously unseated. It has never lost any significant pressure though.
Unless you want to run lower pressures I can see no advantage to using special tubeless rims and tyres.

I am so converted to tubeless I have just built a pair of road wheels using Stans Alpha ZTR 340 rims. At road pressures DIY solutions wont work. It is quite bizarre how I can push the tyre (at low pressures) so far off the rim I can see the floor of the rim yet it still holds air!

If I were building another set of MTB wheels I would go for ZTR rims as they would allow very low pressures. I’m not convinced special MTB tubeless tyres offer any advantage.

in the end i bought a set of ztr crests on pro 3s with sealant and a set of ust schwalbe Racing Ralphs. wasnt going to do ust but shop ordered the wrong thing ans sicne the whole thing is now insanly light i wouldnt mind the extra weight as a sacrifice to the less likley event of the tyre coming off the rim for example. so far im running 50psi in the front and 40ish on the back of my HT acouple thorns (only punctures i get really0 and no pressure lost at all which is the main reason i bought the system in the first palce not weight saving.

all i can say now is man this stuff id quick now! but im sure thats more down to the rims and hubs etc. than the tubless set up for example.

That's a strange pressure setup. With tubeless the settings should be around 30psi or lower with the back with more air than the front.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

aww well il tell you why lol basically im a little guy 60+-3kgs and i use the bike for extremily light XC so hardest it ever does is bridleways, so out and out fast little of anything else. i run lots on the front because i have front suspension, but lower on the back because i get rattled and thrown about a fair bit when sat on the saddle for 3+ hours so i like less on the back for the reason of me not liking the sesnsation of noting knowing where my ass is what do you think?
