I just had a totally WTF morning moment.

The X7 Sram mech I bought 2 weeks ago from CRC for £37 is now £57????

Looking about all their prices have gone through the roof, the HG61 Cassette I bought at the same time is now £32 instead of £22.

It is a rip off as u say, alot of companies are using the VAT increase as an excuse to bump up prices so they can increase their profits and it stinks

VAT only went up by 2.5%, an increase of over 60% is taking the royal pish.

  • I noticed the same thing. Looked on Saturday at a cube fritzz and it £1500, looked on Sunday and it was £1650, same with the stereo
  • Bet they are still cheaper without 'Mega' Sales than Wiggle.
  • January was the big sale, it's now February

This is happening a lot all across retail and it is bang out of order. It will just cause inflation to spike and as a result interest rates will go up. Brilliant.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

'Tis true I was going to leave a review and I looked at the new price and thought WTF is this the same part?

As said above, the rises are not VAT increases the prices have gone through the roof.
  • Simple business plan working on it's normal cycle. This kind of thing happens every year. During winter season, and summer, things are stupidly low priced to attract ALOT more buyers because they see the prices, but this actually boosts sales and profits for the company for that season because of the sheer bulk being bought. Normally happens twice a year in adventure kind of hobbies, because normally only used in nice weather. Even in between summer adventure period and winter buying period, in spring and fall, they make profit, or at least break even, as the bulk is lower but prices are high, and the enthusiasts will still be looking for things anyways.

Yeah Ive had a saint shifter on my wishlist since Xmas, now I've been paid I went to buy it to find it had gone from 39.99 to about £57... There's much cheaper places than that!

CRC used to be the cheapest for most parts! Looks like that's changing though!

....on the other hand, i picked up an Ultegra 10 speed rear mech for £17 at christmas. OK, it's a 2009 6600 model but they're currently retailing in the £50-£60 area.

  • Just got a X9 rear derailluer at CRC for around 47 £ yesterday. Today it's 80 £. Phew! :o

Is this the new SRAM stuff though? A lot of CRCs mega cheap prices are on older models. Plus as above, ain't the January sales any more

I got the 2011 model, so it's the new stuff indeed. Just happy I made it before the price jump. :)
Oh btw. Only the medium cage X9 were discounted - I don't know why, but it was the one I needed, so I'm a happy man!

Merlin do they same when Shimano increase their prices, despite the stuff already being in stock and paid for at the cheaper rate.

If people knew the factory gate prices of all these things then there would be a lot more tears.

For some companies (like mine) it's not so simple. When the VAT rate changes we have to reprint our catalogues. So it makes sense to combine a price rise with a VAT change. We had a small rise in pre-VAT prices, out first for quite a few years.

Most places do that though. Imagine the fuss you lot on here would make if they started selling the same part at 2 different prices

I noticed the CRC bike bag was originally 48.99 in the sale.

Two weeks later and in the the same sale it's 59.99 :?

Still, they're cheaper than when I bought one back in December for 79.99

I agree about the bike prices £2000.00 only gets you something average these days.

Yep. I was looking at the 2011 EX8 and was pretty shocked to see it costs £300 more than the 2010 model, especially when NOTHING has been upgraded (rear mech is even SLX now, rather than XT)...

Things have gone up a load in the last few years. I bought my Saint chainset for £110 or thereabouts a few years ago. Try doing that now :?

I spotted the same brakes on the Giant in the new What MTB test are the same as on the carrera vengeance ultimate and the forks are worse even though teh Carrera could be bought for only £350 compared to £800 of the giant. makes you wonder.

Ok so the carrera has heavy wheels , tyres only alivio (but 9 sp) but still surly giant can get some decent forks on a bike for that price.
