Too right. They can't think of their own words for things. Like ananas. They've just taken our bananas and taken the B off.
And what's more, their bananas are crap, they taste like pineapple.

I find it amusing in supermarkets in the Netherlands when they have bananas next to pineapples. The sign reads 'banaanananas'

    Ah, Muslims...

Shamelesly stolen from a better forum is the following:-

I'm sick and tired of all these radical Muslims getting all the attention in the media.

What about all the awesome Buddhists, gnarly Hindus and steezy Jews?

  • I'll tell you what else used to really annoy me. The turd people who watched BBC Breakfast in the morning and who would email in the most ridiculous pish (usually complaining about black people, Russell Brand or that fact you can buy toasters that do 3 slices of bread). I pretty much hated all of the presenters on it as well (with the exception of the main anchor dude... Bill Turnbull and Kate Silverton).

Says a lot about how bad the alternatives were though that I would still have it on rather than the nonsense on ITV or Sky

    Does that include you?
The fact we live in a country that gives people the tools so they never end up homeless and yet we have homeless.
Excuse me... WHO lives in which country now?

To be fair, I know of people who were laid off because the company they worked for vanished, who then had no means of paying their mortgage, and the state refused to help them. They ended up sadly homeless, with no other option.

I'm not a turd person...I'm a jobbie person. Big difference

There is plenty in this country that annoys me as well. Here you see a lot more poverty and the local attitude seems to be one of indifference (perhaps if you're exposed to it for long enough it loses it's shock value...but still).

As for the UK. If you lose your job you can claim jobseeker allowance. As well as this, the government will make the interest payments on your mortgage (as long as your bank will allow you to change the terms... every bank/building society I have worked for would do it happily as they don't want to repossess). Compare that with here (I am still getting used to living here...explaining my confusion of where "here" is in terms of context) and there is no governmental safety net. You lose your job and you better hope to get a new one quick as there is no help. If you're on their version of incapacity benefit you get a quarter of the average monthly wage here so you don't get any people scrounging off it when they can possibly work (compare that with UK where you get generations of families all going "on the sick" for an easy life).
On Sunday when driving back to Montevideo we took a wrong turn on the outskirts and ended up in a shanty town. Seeing the absolute squalor that people there live in just made me think about how easy we have it in the UK. Sickens me how people take advantage of the system in the UK.

I may have rambled to the extent I lost my original point but it's in there...somewhere

Not everyone is elligible for help on paying a mortgage though. Like I said, I know several people who were dumped up sh*t creek without a paddle.
They ended up living either back with their parents, or with friends whilst they got themselves back on their feet, but yeah, they were technically homeless.

  • That's true but we're talking about people with mortgages worth more than £200,000. Anything below that and as long as you're on income support or jobseeker you pretty much qualify for "support for mortgage interest". My knowledge is a touch hazy on the fine details as I was at the banking end of it (rather than governmental end) but my point stands. There are enough support mechanisms to keep 99% of people out of cardboard boxes in the UK (especially when compared with other countries).

Walked into that one I suppose hahahaha

Didn't want to type "all" as there is no such thing as a truly perfect system (and it's a bit of a sweeping statement). We shouldn't have homeless people though.
