How was it for you when you started cycling from a fat sedentry lifestyle? How did you go about it..........?

Dunno, I've never been fat or sedentary.

Exactly. What would you know about what it takes?

I've never been to the moon either, but I'm pretty sure you need a rocket.

About the same level of knowledge as my youngest kid then. Knowing that doesn't get either of you (or anybody else) to the moon though.

I see. Congrats on knocking down the strawman you created.

Never fails to amaze me just how far off the point people can get.

Again, we are talking about a new, overweight cyclist here

Yeah thats me to a tee.

Sorry to dissapoint some posters, but it's true.. I started at 22 Stone!! Hit the Atkins late summer, got to a more sensible level of weight, and hit the bike as soon as I got it. I was amazed at my initial improvement, and thats really what kept me going. I do have a goad of 30 mins to do the 10 mile trip. The bike is sat in the hallway waiting to go, and my Roadrash is getting less painful. So tomorrow I'm going to go and start again again after a few days rest...

Really I love riding my bike. I get a proper sense of acheivment out of it, esp when hacking down a great downhill through some little wiltshire hamlet! Thing is once I get the the time down to around 30mins, I'm going to extend the ride, get to back to an hour. Thanks to everyone for their input and advice.

    Matt

agree with those who said rest IS important, when I have a day or two rest from cycling I always feel refreshed and faster the next day back. No rest, no gain.
