I've been using it for a month - half of which I wasn't really exercising. I bought it to track my 30+-mile round trip commute. I want to ride every day but find I'm knckered by the end of the week after 160 miles (especially as, in the winter, I have to use an MTB with spikey tyres). I also found last year, a week off the bike turbocharged my legs so I want to better understand the whole recovery thing. That's the background.
So what have I found so far?
Firstly it's very sensitive to your mental state and heart rate. I use it as soon as I get up but, if I'm feeling stressed about the day ahead, it shows up or, as I found, even if I need a leak. The results vary considerably if your HR is higher than normal. I have a resting HR of 60 and have set myself a limit of 80bpm for this test (if my HR is above that, I repeat the measurement).
Now I'm back to riding, I can see the numbers beginning to climb with my fitness. It'll be interesting to see if they peak and start to reverse. To that end, I can't really comment on its effectiveness.

After reading the recent review on the Ithlete app I decided to download it onto my Iphone and see if it is actually any use or just another gimmick!
At the tail end of last year I was in a permanent state of tiredness which I put down to over-training. Whilst the programme is only really telling you what your body is feeling, I take reassurance that it's not just me being a wuss and that my body does actually need a break. If anything it is helping me structure my training around rest periods.
I have only been using it for a short while following the christmas blow out, slowly but surely my HRV is rising as I up the training and slowly build my fitness.
However, as meanredspider commented, it does seem to be effected by variables such as stress etc... I notice when I am stressed out my HRV nose dives. Also it's quite important to use it at the same time ( just out of bed, first thing) in order to have like for like comparisons day on day.
Overall I am pleased with programme and its usability and definitely feel it will be beneficial as my training programme increases ensuring I take appropriate rests when needed.0
