I placed this in the Cycling Plus Office forum but did not garner any response so perhaps the training area would be more interested in commenting? What are your views on the following:
Your published article Back to Base in your Ride Fit pull out with the Feb 2011 issue. For those over a certain age, say 50, would they gain as much from base training as prescribed in the article or would they gain more benefit from higher intensity work, interval sessions, due to the loss of muscle that comes with age. I would be interested in knowing which would be more beneficial over the winter months.
If there is a distinction in getting the most from different training methods dependant on age and previous exercise, or lack of, perhaps the articles should show a bit of sympathy to the variety of readers you have or specify to who such training would apply. A number of readers are like myself coming back to cycling after a prolonged absence with little else in the intervening years, we may need a different style of training if we are to remain cyclists for a number of years and get the most from it.
