Powerkiting, Snowboarding (and occassionaly skiiing), horse riding, travelling and I used to row quite alot and run but they have gone by the wayside.

Does buying and selling on ebay count as a hobby??

Started doing a bit of fishing a few years back but have pretty much stopped since getting back into cycling as I don't have enough time for the bike as it is so the fishing is pretty much restricted to holidays these days. I also spend quite a bit of time helping my daughter out with her horse but this takes up less of my time as she's got old enough to do most of it herself. I was going to take up riding myself but the horse I was going to have had to be put down and it is so expensive.

Less active hobbies include watching my rugby team whenever possible (and when they actually play - only managed 1 game in the last 6 weeks!), gaming on PS3 and reading.

I've done loads over the years and enjoy many things but time constraints always leave you having to choose and the cycling has always been my main love. Following on from the live to work thread, if I could afford to give up work I would have no trouble keepong myself busy.

Up until getting the cycling bug last year, I scratchbuilt models of vehicles and other mobile machines, all in 1:87 scale (i.e quite small) and without being big headed was pretty good at it.
    NICE !! I'm seriously impressed !!!

I like messing around with engines, my kit car spends more time in bits than on the road ! Mostly because I think "I wonder if I can......."
I also ski, love rugby, although I've not played for years and I've recently rediscovered my love of physics, I'm finding quantum physics fascinating, but it does make my head hurt sometimes.

oh yeah............ and I do like my PS3. Wouldn't really call it a hobby, but I'm sure that due to the time spent on it, my Mrs would !!

    Oh where to start!

I don't actively participate in all of them, however:

    1. An occasional angler (fly / coarse)
    2. Middle distance running (5 - 10K)
    3. Rugby (both codes, but my heart lies with League - no longer a participant, bloody good job 'cos I was rubbish at the best of times!). Still love to watch it.
    4. Absolute sucker for anything to do with natural history (reading, TV documentaries, watching creatures in their natural habitat, which ties in quite well with being out on the bike).
    6. One of my favourites when time allows - sitting around somewhere warm and abroad, doing nothing except reading or watching the world go by with a coffee / beer / wine or fruit juice by my elbow - for hours on end.
    7. Getting together with my sister for a long, long chat and a glass of wine or two (we live a fair way apart so meeting up is great, and yes; it counts as a pastime, to me at least!
    8. Thinking what course I should take at night school this year, every year, yet never quite getting around to it! (I fancy further french language or astronomy this time, but I know what I'm like...).
    9. Very bad occasional golfer!
    10. Being a lecherous old git. Then again, who isn't?

This is a good thread - we can all reassure each other we're not completely obsessed. :D

Aside from cycling we have, in no particular order: running, travelling, reading (sci-fi and [auto]biographies), music (all sorts - gigs, smaller shows), fishing, football (watching - had to pack in playing), writing (I need to get back to my blog to be honest), drinking (won't deny it).

Saying all that, I'm carrying my narrow ar$e up to Emley Moor mast tomorrow morning!

Used to be a bit of this, but I'm too old to bounce nowadays. I also belong to a much misunderstood fraternity that raises a lot of money for charity. More people (men) should try it.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
  • I love bugs. Mainly arachnid and mainly spiders but do like most inverts. I have a little under 60 in my collection and here are a few.

As well as cycling, motorbiking, motorbike racing, photography and hillwalking i am a model engineer and specialise in making hot air engines, this a pic of what ive done so far, all made in my shed, these engines run on heat and have no intake or exhaust and so can be run indoors off a candle, meths burner or electric heat, depending on the heat used they can reach 2000-2500 rpm.

Personally I'm one of those weird ones that likes to combine my biking with a bit of swimming and running.

When I'm not triing I do a bit of climbing (mainly trad), I ski to a high standard and love getting away from the pistes to find some steeps and/or powder. I'm a prodigious reader. I keep chickens and I fly heavy aeroplanes.
