Warm weather training

Hi,

I am looking to organise a relatively cheap break to spain/balearics/canaries for a home-brewed training camp.

the big goal for this year is the dragon ride and a trip to france to ride the marmotte route post TDF. so we are looking for somewhere that has plenty of alpine style long grinds.

Not knowing southern europe very well I would appreciate any suggestions that people could make on good routes places to go to.

I have found the likes of traininspain.net but we are trying for a lower cost option as well hence the homebrew efforts.

Thanks Stuart

Gran Canaria - just got back from a week :D

Free-motion.net will sort you out with a Cannondale bike and they run guided rides every day except Sunday. The island is small but has mountains in the middle that are pretty challenging! I only did 3 rides but managed >17000 ft climbing and almost 200 miles. Cheap as well, at 15 euros a ride and about 15-20 euros per day for a bike depending on what you choose. Fantastic weather as well at this time of the year - 22/24 degs every day right now!

  • I live in Tenerife and I can assure you there is no where in main land Spain or the other Canary Islands than can offer training like in Tenerife.
I often see pro teams riding up the mountain near my house.
Have a look at the following areas: Vilaflor, Masca, La Orotava, Pico del ingles, Anaga and Teide of course !!
Let me know if you are over and maybe we can get a ride in.
