Recovery ride on same day evening?

Did a hard club ride this morning and my legs are quite tired. Would like to do a recovery ride tomorrow, but will be busy with family commitments all day.

Will I benefit by doing a recovery ride this evening? Will do some gentle spinning in my turbo... Or is it best to sleep in between?

Just rest tomorrow then, and don't worry about the recovery ride. I doubt it will help much tonight.
  • If you have time why not, just keep the intensity right.

The same principle works as if you did the recovery ride tomorrow.

I've kind of wondered something which is sort of the opposite of this.

People talk about building base - with a long ride at a constant moderate heart rate. After doing this I get a drink, sit down a while then sometimes feel like more.

Is there anything to stop me doing a base building run - taking a couple of hours off with something to eat then doing an intensity session?

I assume the answer is I wouldn't get the benefits - so what is the difference between that and leaving it overnight and doing an intense session first thing the next morning?

Do the high-intensity first when you're fresh would be my advice. You may have difficulty hitting the higher HRs/watts if you have already done a longer ride, even if it's relatively steady.

+1 to this, I have done an endurance ride today, and there is no way I would be able to do a decent high intensity session today. Then again it was a long endurance ride, might feel a little different if it was a shorter ride.

The body actually repairs itself overnight. Sleep is a very important part of the recovery process.
