Little Britain has always been utter sh*** so no surprise really.

    Don't watch it?

I quite like it. I thought the first episode was hilarious and the last one pretty good too. I guess there is no accounting for taste :)

I have watched a few of the Airline programmes and most of the gags are at the expense of that.
  • "Airline" is waaay funnier than Come Fly With Me.

Surely David Walliams must be the luckiest person alive. Not an ounce of talent, yet has had a highly successful career pretending to be Danny La Rue for the last ten years. Astonishing!

I think the point they have missed is exactly that Airline is funny due to the quirkiness of real people and real life. Trying to copy exactly that format and make it funnier doesn't work for me. Watched it last night and simply didn't laugh.
I can take or leave little Britain but it is original observational humour which works. This just isn't.

Bit harsh on Walliams though. If nothing else he's swum the English channel which makes him far from talentless imho.

Haven't watched Airline. Little Britain was funny at first but once the characters were established you knew what was coming so it lost it's spark, hence why I haven't watched Airline...I could of course be wrong.

I thought it was quite amusing to be honest, particularly like the immigration officer.

Haven't seen it, but if it's anything like Little Britain it'll just be a bunch of characters repeating the same jokes ad infinitum.

And swimming the channel might be a fantastic achievement, but it doesn't make you a comedy genius!

Probably one of the better comedy programmes on TV at the moment but I did mention that having seen Matt Lucas on the "Les Mis" programme over the holiday, and with due reference to his appearance in Wind in the Willows a couple of years ago, he is capable of far, far better.

Agree completely, but... teh point was made that he had "not one ounce of talent". Not specifically, no comic talent.

Not defending it, I think it's poor.

I saw the episode on over christmas and wasn't impressed. In fact it's the sort of rubbish that has led me to the decision to become TV-less when I move house in a couple of weeks.

I bet they repeat the jokes as often as your post

I haven't watched it though, of course. I too found Little Britain totally unfunny. But then, I thought the same about The Office so what do I know.

Was he the "Some people have called me a racist. Well, if being highly suspicious of all foreigners makes me a racist, guilty as charged!" guy?

Probably the only slightly funny thing I saw.

Yep, that's the one - I liked his board game myself

Do it! A bike workstand now occupies the space where my telly used to be. Far more entertaining than what used to be there.

Once I got rid of the telly, I also found that I no longer needed a sofa.

Surely early July makes you wish for a box if nothing else?

Either way, I don't think I would be able to convince my wife/young girls that replacing the tv with a bikestand is a good idea. Hard enough getting them to bankroll my addiction :)

That's pretty much the reaction I've had from most people when I've told them of my intention, a look of such confusion and incomprehension that I may as well have said I find Ann Widdecombe sexually attractive. There is nothing I'd really miss however, I go to the cinema once a week so will catch most films and haven't found myself hooked on any particular program or series for years, I'd much rather read a book and am doing a history degree part-time too. I listen to a lot of radio as well so won't be out of touch with the news. I am single too so it's a decision just for myself which I appreciate not everyone is in a postion to do  Don't know about not having a sofa though....now that is crazy talk!

If you are referring to the Tour Bobbinogs...I try and go see it live every year for a bit anyway and I reckon I can make do with internet streams for the days I don't.

But TV is a big cultural reference point? Sometimes it's worth watching TV just so you can stay on a similar wave-length to everyone else.

And how can you pick out who is in 15th position with 3km to go from the overhead shot if you don't have a proper TV? The commentators probably won't tell you!

What history do you study by the way?
  • I find Ann Widdecombe sexually attractive.

It's on the internet, it must be true.

    No. Just no.

I'm studying through the OU and about to start a module on European history, 1400-1900. That is the main focus of my interest, have always been curious about the many different components and complexities that have gone to make up the continent to what it is now and thought I'd do a course to learn with a bit of structure rather than just pick up books and read without really thinking about what they are saying, having to write essays hopefully means I actually digest it.

I appreciate the cultural significance of TV but so little of it interests me, some of my friends take the p1ss about how little I know about pop culture but I don't live in a complete bubble, I still play computer games but use my pc for that. I haven't totally ruled out the gogglebox though, covered myself by saying I'd start without one and see how it goes, may give in and buy one after a fortnight.

That must be the most damning statement on British culture that I have ever heard

PS Eurosport is available as a stream and is 100% better than anything else on standard TV, ie, there is nothing on standard TV.

such confusion and incomprehension that I may as well have said I find Ann Widdecombe sexually attractive .

I can relate to that; when i met my missus and I was 25, i didn't have a TV (and spent my non working time running, at the gym or socialising) - she still relates this fact with incredulity 15 years later, like saying I kept roadkill in the bath or something

I did find Little Britain funny/different at first, but later it and especially the USA version was utter tripe, same goes for the airline 'spoof' now too - as someone else said, it's hard to parody such rich subject matter anyway, and those two aren't up to the task by (air)miles - maybe armando ianucci and/or chris morris

For air travel comedy try Youtube search on "The High Life".

You might find that it has been done before (mid 90s), and funnier.

No, not the Robert Millar video but that is worth watching too obviously

When the funniest thing on TV is either the Morcambe and Wise Christmas Special or The Two Ronnies, things have got to a pretty low ebb

    Do you not agree then?

You don't notice if you watch it, but I remember I was without a TV for a month and I got lost in half of the office conversations, that didn't even seem to be about TV.

    Do I agree? No.

I went 6 months without TV by choice one summer. It was possibly the best summer I have ever had. If it wasn't for her indoors I would gladly do it again. And she is coming round to the idea.
