Yes I am a Mac user and I have a Mac Pro, an iMac, two Mac Minis and a MacBook Pro. Admittedly, I am a sad git, but on the upside I do have a dual Quadcore Xeon box running XP for gaming0 -

PC keeps on working even after everything else has given up, because you can easily replace bits when they become outmoded or break?Uncompromising extremist0 -

linux is great for dual booting
my laptop was getting old and slow so i wipped the had drive and how have dual boot with vista and linux and it works great0 -
you should try win 7 then. way faster than vista and you don't have to waste disk space on another OS.0

Win 7 = Vista 2 (VII) and Microsoft's p1ss poor attempt to emulate OSX once again
Also it's chunky and full of security bugs due to MS's Active X architecture.
LINUX used to be great when the Distros were smaller, but it has become somewhat bloated over the years, however it's an ideal alternative to MS Windoze
Anyone ever dabbled with Free BSD? Or am I the only person here who really likes the BSD based OSes?0 -

I'm still using XP so I've got no side here, but I think this is total mince tbh, Vista was poor but 7 really is pretty nice- sure it takes tweaking to get it to your taste and the basic setup is a bit brain dead but it's not particularily bloaty and security-wise it's proven itself now. I'm only using XP out of laziness really, since this install's about 4 years old now and works like clockwork I don't want to mess with itUncompromising extremist0 -
i just can't get on with macs. i use an i phone and i pod buti've tried to use a mac - they're quite widely used in my industry- but i just can't get used to them.....
where's the right mouse button?0 -
whats wrong with vista on a day to day basis?
i havent had any bother at all with my quickly ageing laptop which runs vista. it always turns on, always turns off, always lets me use the net and seems plenty swift enough.
i dont suffer with virus trouble despite visitng plenty of porn sites and what not.
is it the case that because i dont use my laptop for more than web browsing, i dont have to deal with the supposed pitfalls of windows?0 -

You can run a traditional 2/3 button mouse on a Mac.. agreed the way OSX works is totally different to Windoze, but I was using UNIX based X Windows GUI interfaces before Microsoft even released Windows 2.x their first attempt at a GUI, so I am accustomed to doing tricky (or clever) things at CLI level and of course using the [dreaded[?]] single button mouse.0 -

Pretty much. I mean, these days most home PCs are stupidly powerful, so it doesn't matter most of the time if the software's bloaty as hell. Only time it makes any odds to me is games and video crunching (video work basically takes my entire PC for as long as it feels like). But web browsing, you can pretty much do that on a calculatorUncompromising extremist0 -

i moved from vista basic to 7 ultimate and apart from the slightly cleaner interface, and putting all my programs down onto my task bar, i havent noticed a great difference
i got a bigger difference by removing about 50gb of stuff from my harddrive and defragmenting my computer.
by difference im meaning the loading time of photoshop and its general speedyness in using adobe software0 -

So Windows is a dependable workhorse that gets the job done, even when all else has failed, and mac is sleek, modern, and, ultimately, a bit girly?
hmm.
I prefer my computers to just do the job, rather than either be a peni5 extension, replacement for a personality, or a status symbol.0 -

+1 the reason I've always used a Mac.
Yeeha, ever played with Native Instruments' DJ Traktor Pro?0 -
I don't use traktor pro, but a mate of mine does. What do you want to know about it?Raymondavalon wrote:+1 the reason I've always used a Mac.0

Only just signed up to this forum. I'm normally on STW (does that make me an outcast here before I start?).
Found this thread amusing as I'm browsing on a mac while trying to make a windoze XP machine useful again by installing Ubuntu (which I've never used before but it can't be any worse or need any more maintenance).0 -

only if you start waffling on about single speed hippy bikes or bmw 335 diesel mobiles0 -
All the bikes in the house are 27 speed. The car is a beat up old Toyota and neither me nor the wife work in IT.0
