£50. I have one and have had no issues with it. Very heavy duty and steady. I honestly couldn't do without it now. I also built my first bike on this.0 -

The one from Ribble @ about £50 is usually a pretty popular choice - I bought one on recommendations. Just the job - can be put up/ put away in seconds and very versatile. Has served my bike-building needs fine.

Putting a frame in a worksatnd became too much hassle for me years ago. And these days with carbon fibre everything you have to be so careful not to cause damage.
If you mess around with bikes for a living then I can see the point of a workstand - saves you a lot of bending over. But then I guess there are those who tinker with bikes every now and again and who might like the appeal of one. A workstand might convey to them an air of 'professionalism'.0 -

Apparently, you only have to take delivery of a workstand for one to make you feel better. And then just imagine how one can make you feel when you got it set up in your little workshop with your carbon fibre 'princess' hanging from it. Wow!0

Just unpacked the ribble one and i'm seriously impressed - it is really well put together - very impressive - I am surprised how high quality it looks and feels - the upright is about 3" telescopic aluminium and the feet are braced on an external sleave - altogether it would be a good buy at twice the price...0

yep and makes life so much better when cleaning and adjusting the gears plus also looking after the other 2 bikes in the house. i have ocd with cleaning the bike that is worth more than my car (after every ride) a stand makes perfect sence.http://www.flickr.com/photos/lancejambo/7872222626/

ts been great for me. i only really use it to clean the gearing and do the odd tweak to limit screws but can't complain."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -
I have a couple ropes with rubberised protective hooks hanging from joists in the garage to hang my bikes on.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......

yes it will do seat post or top tube. the clamp is quite chunky though so on one of my bikes i need to raise the seat to clamp it to the seat post"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

Ouch that's dear, you can get it for just over a ton at Ribble, I keep meaning to get one though for BB work, do you find it good for regalar maintenance Jon? I have a 'normal' tripod affair for routine work but need something to support the BB area.0
-
That was just the first link I found in a hurry last night, if it's cheaper at Ribble then i'd say get one there!
I absolutely love it, when working at Halfords we had decent quality clamp type stands, but I find this so much nicer to work with. I've only removed the cranks on my bikes so far, haven't done any BB work, but it worked nicely for that, I'm not sure if it's better than the clamp types for that kind of work, but I definitely prefer it for everything else.0 -
So far I haven't found the need for a full workstand. Instead I do all maintenance work using a simple "Minoura Folding Stand" (around £18 ). It's great for washing the bike, tweaking gears, oiling the chain, re-cabling, etc...

its nice then you can get the bike at chest hight and have the wheels off to clean in those hard to reach bits and thats what the workstands do ? as well as all the other advantages that comes with ithttp://www.flickr.com/photos/lancejambo/7872222626/
