I normally have 2 lots of padding on under my baggies when on the mountain bike. After getting frowned at by other roadies I decided to do without the baggies recently when on my road bike.

The problem is, the bib tights I have are just a little too short in the body, and much too thin 'up front', so I end up looking like 'Old Greg' (mangina). Therefore I am wearing my padded shorts over the top of my bib tights. Remarkably comfortable, I am warm and I am caring less and less what people think, mainly because it's dark on my ride to and from work. Both shorts and tight are plain black.

Still, a bit embarassing in shops.

Why not just wear unpadded bib tights or tights over bib shorts, two pads sounds like overkill.

when its really cold as it has been i wear a 40 diner tights under my road tights and bibshorts! more layers the better!
shelling out loads of money for and extra thermal tights seems a waste of money £3 does the job,

Padded bib shorts under unpadded tights everytime for me (definately no underwear, don't like doing impressions of the Japanese flag!). I don't think there were many people making padded tights when I first started and I've just stuck with that approach.

The pads on your shorts should always be worn against the skin, therefore tights on top.

i bought a set of assos shorts last spring, already owning a set of dhb merstons ( with pad). had already discovered that the comfort premium of assos shorts does not get paid in full if you are silly enough to wear underwear under them. (just dont ok!)

this winter i set about my merstons with a set of scissors and ripped out the pad which always did feel like i was like sitting on razors compared to the assos. have been using the assos shorts as underwear all winter so far ( daily quick wash with base layer) the main advantage really is that the tights dont really need a wash too often unless you have an ocd thing about dirt!

One hint when buying assos.....the pad will be uncomfortable if you buy a size too big, because the pad will ruck up. you need to read the sizing chart. they are designed to be tight for a reason!
