30 minutes on rollers after a month off due to injury...felt good though, can't wait to get out!
  • Went out for first ride in 4 weeks yesterday due to the icy roads and freezing temperatures of the last month - the substitute turbo sessions seem to have paid off as I felt pretty good and stronger than usual on the hills. Shame I crashed just before the end - not on ice but on greasy, shiny tarmac as I went round a small roundabout.
Weather reasonable again today so went out for first ride of the year and managed to stay upright throughout !
  • just finished my first ride of the year
did a fast ride on quiet roads
set this as my bench mark time for the training route for the vrest of the year
  • Just got on the turbo and did 25miles. Not ideal but after last night I didn't want to be wobbling on the road. However the turbo developed a problem and became very noisey and felt like unit had gone out of balance, still carried on with the session though and I'll have to try and assess what the problem is another day.

After my almost two month lay-off,I'm happy with the start to the year, onward and upward. :)

Not ridden on the road for a couple of months but I bet it won't be long before there is another "pot-hole" thread.

Left the bike carrier on the car dumped at friends, so will be between 10 and 30 miles tomorrow to retrieve car - not saying what time it might be though....

Well, after those brave words I managed a direct and rather pathetic 7 miles to collect the car, will do better on Monday

To almost add upset to the poor performance, I lazily attached the bike to the carrier to find it hanging on precariously by one point when I got home - what a New Year's tosser!

Managed to get out for a nice easy ride this avo. 4 and a bit hours out in the drizzle and road grime. managed to clock up 66 miles which was a nice start to the year. v surprised at just how quiet the roads were. got my metric century done before the weather drops off again :(
  • Very happy to have started the year with an hour and a half on the tandem - determined to ride it more this year!

They may not be too bad this year. It's the overnight freezing followed by daytime thawing that really makes them bad, and we haven't really had that, it's either been well below freezing during the day or well above freezing at night.

Did 105 mostly flat miles today, would have been fine to ride tomoz but the last 30 miles conditions were good and I decided to push on abit until I got a puncture, I must not have pumped it hard enough but I was only 12 miles from home, thought there was a headwind on the way too, turns out my tyre was proper rubbing on the mudguard, I picked the bike up and tried to turn the wheel when I got home and it quickly stopped, so I spent the last 12 miles with quite abit of extra resistance on the back wheel.

If I can be bothered and I have enough clean cycling clothes available I might have gone and done a steadyish 50 tomoz but the bike is so dirty it needs cleaning and I won't be waking up till around 11am so it'll be dark by the time I've finished the bike.

I felt pretty cack this morning and decided I was not going to do the 91 mile route and felt I did not want to go far, well I felt abit better and then it turned into 105 miles most of it tempo.

Not very fast for me but I suppose I have to look on the bright side, my first solo century of the year, on the first day of the year, and I was not killing myself.

Best cycling weather here today for a month, no ice, no fog and a light west breeze. early night on 31st so off at 10 am for a very enjoyable 30 mile spin around lanes; kept gears low and really enjoyed teh ride.
Bit of sunshine about, birds singing and very few cars on roads. Good 3 mile hill climb too, last 1/2 mile on twin track tarmac through snowdrifts . GREAT :D:D

Bed at 2300hrs last night after 2 glasses of wine. Up at 0800hrs, out at 0900hrs. 27 miles later, (1hr 36mins) reached destination (Portobello). Ran 4 mile Promathon race (28mins), cycled back along coast road 33miles. Cold tired and Hungary but absolutly brilliant to be back on the road bike after 3 Months of Cyclocrossing to work. Was bloody tired heading home but smiling ear to ear on the flat and slightly down bits.
There was a lot of cyclists out and about In and out of Edinburgh. A lot of traffic too, think everybody got out after been stuck indoors with all the Snow and Ice.
Day of different kind of abuse Tommorrow as going Tit Pub to watch Rangers vs Celtic.
  • You have a Tit Pub? Shouldn't there be two?

On the bike twice today. Just a quick hour on the road in the afternoon and a punishing sprint session on the turbo tonight.

Off for a 4 hour spin tomoro though, after a gym session in the morning!

I wish I could do these 4 hour sessions often, I enjoyed my 5 and a half hour session today but on my own it just takes forever, 50 miles at faster than club run pace and I'm like finally 50 miles, on a club run I'm like, "oh we already at 50 miles???"
