Is that bender fender any good? Quite tempted to get one, I'm currently using a bit of inner tube stretched between the arch and the crown, that bender fender looks a little neater.

  • still looks brand new, has it been ridden in anger? :)

looks stunning, blue and black is a great mix. the forks may look better if they were black but still look pretty good in white.

I'm 6 feet tall and use a large which makes it a good allrounder for me. At 5'10 you could either way if you let people know where you are someone may offer you their bike to try. Failing that a large would be an allrounder and the medium an oversized BMX that could be really thrown around but may get a little uncomfortable on an all day ride.

Mucky Nutz are great and better than the fancy Neoguard version of the inner tube that I had on before.

The last pics of the bike were after a rebuild last year and second covering of heli tape hence the glossy look as it is normally matt black. It's still the go to bike in the garage getting plenty of use. I'd heard of complaints about the quality of the paint but so far it's holding up well with only a bit of rub at the dropouts the heli tape has done the job it was bought for.

CRC are currently selling these frames with 50% off! I've been eyeing one up for a while now and couldnt resist... Along with a 12 pound discount theyre having this weekend means I got a new frame for £287!! Im planning on swapping as many components over from my Marin Rocky Ridge as possible and buying the rest. This is going to be the first bike I have built up from scratch so I'm expecting things are going to get rather interesting.

You deserve it, if you don't buy it the other half will just buy shoes with the money anyway. Just go onto CRC and press the buy button. You're not complete without it, you need it, your fingers are itching to press the buy button.

    Am I helping?

Nope not helping!! but at £290 quid with money off and Ive got a headset and seatpost to fit it... it would literally be frame price and thats it :/ more to add to the on one... hmmmmmmmmmmmm *contemplates*
  • thanks for letting me know your frame size, just in time too as i went onto to crc and the frame is now £299.

ive been toying with the idea for a week or so but not sure as im a complete beginner to mountain biking and was looking at boring trek/giant etc until i saw the sov which on crc was £417.

i am now the proud owner of a large sov in black, my first mountain bike since my raleigh mustang in 1988!!!!yea hah

Nice one boborange i did the same. Did you use the the HAPPY12 code for an additional £12 off? We'll have to compare builds with each other :) What colour scheme are you planning on using? I cant decide to something similar to CraigXXLs build or red and black or purple and black or green and black!

Only thing im worried about now is i ordered a medium frame as my current bike is a medium but have read that its quite a short frame. Im 5'9" though so i could have gone either way really.
  • hi mark,

i forgot the happy 12 in my excitement at seeing it at £299 when previosuly i last saw it at £417 so missed out on £12. :(

any way chuffed that i bought it now, the hard bit in speccing it up as im completely new to this and only rode my first singletrack 2 weeks a go at beghbury on a hired raliegh. I did not like the giant/trek/specilaised offerings although im sure very very good i wanted something a little different.

not sure about the colour scheme yet, my frame is black so will wait and see when its built i think before deciding but i do like the pink! keep me up to speed on your build, do you know what your going to spec it with yet?

I went for a large, im 5,11 and in the back of my mind keep thinking i should have got the medium!!

craig if i dont use he blue ones i will let you know

    Boborange, appreciate that.

When you're specing these bikes up don't try building it into a lightweight racer as you'll be missing the point. The front is quite high so you may need to play around with stems and bar heights before you settle on what you want, mine are low rise Renthals with 70mm 8 degree stem and I wouldn't suggest going any longer than that.

Hello Craig! So I've finally had chance to have a look at my new frame after a busy week. However there's a couple of things I'm not happy with and I was wondering if you could provide me some information from when you bought your frame?

The first thing is that it works looks like the box has been opened before sometime in the past. Was yours completely sealed when it arrived?

The next thing is that there seems to be a set of decals missing. I've only got one sheet with Purple, Light Silver, Darker Silver and Green. There should be another set with Blue and red and some other colours?

Also the frame already has the evil pink decals stuck on the frame . Did you get a blank frame when you bought one or was there decals already on it?

Thanks for your help looks like I’m going to have to give chain reaction cycles a call! :S

From memory I got 8 sets of decals with pink already applied. The box was sealed but I think my decals arrived separate which is maybe why they opened yours to put the decals in. The other items that were in the box were 2 different head tube badges and a QR seat collar.

I'll check later what colour decals I had when I go in the garage tomorrow.

Okay thanks for letting me know Craig. I'd assumed the frame would be delivered with no decals on.

How did you get the stickers off without leaving any residue on the frame?

Wife's hairdryer and then a wipe with some IPA to ensure a nice clean surface to apply the new decals
  • hi craig,

just a quick one, what axle are you running on the rear wheel?

    thanks
