PS3 Hell!

A week or two ago I posted on here about my ps3 breaking. I contacted continous play, and within 2 days, a replacement console was sent. The console appeared to be in good condition, and I was impressed with the service.
However, FOUR DAYS after I recieved it, the replacement failed (YLOD) too!
Anyone else had similar problems?

Not personally, but a friend at work has been through 5 PS3s since new. And our video editor's PS3 died about two months ago.0

I have had mine for a good few years and still going strong, though don't tend to play games much mainly blu ray porn :shock:0
-
What I'm worried about is that I have an xbox - and yet I've seen so many PS3s break.
I get nervous every time I swith the 360 on, because I keep expecting it to fail0 -

Well, my first one lasted for 3 1/2 years before it broke. I just wasnt too impressed that the replacement only lasted 4 days!0 -

My mate has had SEVEN Xboxes in 4 years0 -
Which is precisely my point.0

my 2nd refurbed ps3 broke... playstation said it would cost £130 for a refurb replacement.
Traded in all my ps3 stuff and bought a new 360 with 3 games for £40.0 -
Apparently, the newer 360 slims have fixed the old "ring of death" problems, and improved the cooling and heat sink (which I believe was the problem with the old ones).
That's the one I got so I do hope they're right.
The built in wireless on mine seems to be complete shite though. Can't pick up a signal from my router in the next room unless I have the door open.0 -

mine seems fine, but the router is on top of the xbox
i should probably wire it in but i'm lazy.0 -
The widespread xbox thing seems to have died down somewhat, I reckon they must have sorted something long before the new "slim" ones.0
-
I think they fixed it when the elite came out with a slightly different shape body.0
-
It was all fixed when the ones with HDMI ports came out. If you are thinking of buying a 2nd hand one or if you want to know if you've got one of the newer ones, check to see if it has the Jasper chip.
If yes, your sorted.Trek Fuel EX 8 (2010)0 -
Ah, so my 360 arcade (with HDMI) is one of the fixed ones? That's a relief.0

One of my mates has been through 4 PS3's too.
I'm on my first, but barely use it, and now sits waiting for some decent homebrew now that it's been jailbroken :twisted:And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

You mean you've installed linux on it?0

I found linux on PS3 a pain in the arse... PS3 doesnt have enough RAM for starters.
I purchased my PS3 in May 2008, works fine, Upgraded the hdd to 160Gb a while back, more room for more downloadable content, so far so good.0 -

Rented Inception in HD on my Xbox last night.... Streamed it and never had to buffer once!

Ever compared "HD" streaming (or SkyHD for that matter) to BluRay? :shock:0

You can't install other operating systems anymore anyways.
Since the "PS3 Jailbreak" they turned it off in one of the updates.0 -

LOL .. Agreed!..0 -
The whole "jailbreaking" to run homebrew is pointless and (in my humble opinion) nothing more than an excuse to legitimise creating the ability to run pirated games. Whether that's right or wrong is another thing (they sell pirated games in the supermarkets here btw...mental) but why on earth would someone crack their ps3 so they can play Megadrive, Snes and gameboy games on an emulator? I played about with custom firmware on my psp (and I promise you I never looked at a single emulator)Formally known as Coatbridgeguy0
