Former drugs policy minister Bob Ainsworth calls for all drugs to be legally available, saying the current approach is not working.
He may have a point but wouldn't that mean more unemployment :?: like stop going to war
Surely the unemployment figures would be reduced, because the drug dealers could officially put that as their occupation.
Then again, their heavies would lose their jobs, as would the illegal drug traffickers. Then again, you'd probably get the growers/suppliers also being officially recognised as employed. Swings and roundabouts.
Ah, but tell that to some OAP who has had his or her house broken into and been beaten up within an inch of their lives because some drug crazed lunatic wants another fix and needs the funds.
Like cycling and the fact that this post was made bears witness to the fact as both in sport and life in general we have no current answer to the problem.
Apart from one being illegal and the other not what is the difference in terms of overall health impact and social depravity between alcohol and what is term loosely as drugs.
I.M.O the only difference is the fact that there is influential big business involved in the pedaling of alcohol and not with illegal drugs it is still big business but not with lobbyists around Parliament Square.
More than likely unfortunately is the fact that sport/cycling rather reflects some of the more destructive aspects of modern society.
Surely the thing we must be doing more is to dispel the myth that glory/wealth at any cost is a passport to happiness and put much more resources into educating young people of the terrible health and social pitfalls that lie in wait for those that try the quick fix. Let all those that have died prematurely through drug taking be held up as reason enough for the madness to stop. Both in and out of the peloton.

First to get caught will be an obscure Spaniard or Portuguese, the big boys are too good at covering themselves.0

Also also also interesting the Italian Government is Coalition and part of it is th Northern League who have (according to BBC I think) have links with the Mafia. State sponsored doping maybe??
MORE BETS PLEASE!!

Vinokourov - yet to apologise for the last time he got caught and was up and down the mountains helping Contador this year in the TdF.
If only the UCI would stop focusing on removing radios and remove sunglasses then we could all see the bulging eyes and this bet would be a lot easier.0 -
I reckon either;
Griepel,
one of the Sanchezessess
or Scarponi
I'm not going to pick Boonen I've only been following pro cycling for two years, I just though it was tradition until this year. Like the post tour crits.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

The Italian PM has no links to cycling (as far as I know), and I think the Italian Fed have been pretty good recently. Football, on the other. Well we have a different thread for that.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Your thinking in an amusing manner but the main thing is your thinking, rise up folk now's the time to make your voice heard by passing your thoughts on to those in charge, if there's enough of us it will make a difference.
With the internet it's never been easier to get your point across contact the cycling bodies, MP's, it will surprise your how many may share similar thoughts, don't do what we have done for the last 40 years and let the b***ards have their own way, after all look where we have got to letting them have their way.
Here's my main suggestions:-
Cycling.
1. A program of drug awareness amongst all national youth bodies outlining the health dangers associated with their use, this should backed up by investment in the research historically, outlining not just the medical problems but also the social problems many drug cheats go on to experience in life.
2. This should be backed up by a much stronger penalty code for not just the riders but the Team officials. You can debate exactly what those increased penalties are but maybe 5 year ban for the rider along with a 5 year ban for the head team manager.
Drugs in Society.
A review of whether it is time to decriminalize the use of drugs, it has to be borne in mind that we currently officially hand out on a controlled basis a lot of drug substitutes to users, methadone etc. So that already OK.
We are the drug capital of Europe with an appalling record of trying to deal with all the crime and social deprivation associated with it, yes we could tax it and still sell it in a controlled manner at a much lower price than is currently the case. After all that's exactly the case with Alcohol and god knows how much misery it will cause on our streets, homes and A & E units this festive season.
You and I are the only ones that can improve the situation of drugs in sport/society by getting involved.
Lastly how many of you know someone who has been a victim directly or indirectly of the drug culture, I'll bet there isn't many of you that doesn't know someone :?:0 -

But Ricco wasn't on the list. Picking him is like saying Rangers or Celtic will win the Scottish Premiership.
The game is still alive.
That reminds me, wasn't there a sweepstake thread where we picked when Ricco would be caught next? I certainly remember predicting he wouldn't make it to the 2012 Olympics.Twitter: @RichN950 -
