    I like your style.

You're so slow on the uptake. Fishmonger of the Year was on BBC3 tonight.

    Seriously, it was : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wqf7j

I think you need to look at the OPs location and perhaps it is more a case of bias by them?

I do think the X Factor gives the opportunity for some decent musicians who have been playing the pub scene for a few years to make the step up which is so difficult to do, I think it's different with a load of teenagers who have OKish voices who haven't done the hard graft. What I'd really like to see is them allow proper groups (the sort that play instruments) to enter, it would make sense from Cowell's point of view too as the groups are always so weak - they had to make two of their own this year - and there is a lot of talent out there just waiting for the break. All they would need would be a selection of instruments at the auditions, surely not that hard to sort out on a programme of this scale? It would also be interesting if they had a week where they had to write their own song to perform which would take away the karaoke element and give the real musicians a go, after all Cowell is always saying it is more than just a singing competition so he should put his money where his mouth is - those with long term success in the music industry are generally those that write their own material.

Yeah, but the purpose of the programme isn't to find musical talent. It never really has been. It's purpose is to entertain 15m each weekend.

what I would like to know if more reality drivel is going to replace it and all the other reality drivel.
How about some viewing that has a hint of creativity to it

    That costs money...

X Factor probably pays for quite a few dramas on ITV.

It's just a shame ITV don't spend their cash on good writers.

I know but this way it could be even more entertaining as well as finding musical talent.

Did anyone watch 'Must Be The Music'?

That to me seemed like something more credible.

Artistes/Bands performing (mainly) their own songs and playing their own instruments, vying for £100k to spend on furthering their music career in whatever way THEY want to.

This £1m contract bollo that is attached to the X Factor is just the advance you'd have to pay back via record sales - the artist doesn't see it - if they did Steve Brookstein must be cr@p with money, he's singing in Caffe Nero (or similar chain wank coffe outlet)....
