Those photo's are very shocking despite the liberal use of white blankets, lord knows what the emergency services had to witness.

At the risk of making one more child fatherless, the driver should be strung up.

    Get real

Such remarks just detract from the sanctity of life and the extent of the tragic accident here

No, you get real. The drug taking criminal has just killed eight people and destroyed the life of countless others. He has a child of his own to whom he sets an awful role model.

Of course we both know there is no death penalty so he won't get his comeupance IMO and he can carry on being a shining example to his son.

Thankfully there is no death penalty

There is no justification in killing someone PERIOD

This person, if guilty, has committed an appaling crime and deserves to be punished. Killing people solves nothing

At its simplest - the death penalty is killing someone because it is wrong to kill someone - rather a contradiction.

Also, in this particular case, it is unlikely the driver intended to kill someone, so you would kill someone for an accident- very sensible and fair

  • This is tragic, absolutely tragic. Thing is my dad always has digs at me for road riding and I always tell him nothing will happen to me. Sad thing is that incidents like these keep reminding me how wrong I am, makes me think twice before swinging a leg over the road machine.

May all the riders rest in peace, and pass on to a better world. Also, condolences to those affected. :(

Aneesh99 - you and your father and the rest of us need to keep this in context. Both incidents are tragic, but they make the news headlines across the world because they are so rare.

The DofT figures show that cycling is safer for kilometre travelled than walking or travelling in a car.

Take precautions to keep safe, but keep it in perspective and don't let such incidents put you off cycling on the roads

Please Spen666 take a chill pill and let it go just this time, please.

Everyone one of us feels for the deceased, wondering about their last moments, thinking there go I but for the grace of God, it could be one of us and then thinking of the distraught families. People speculating on what should happen to the moton is their way of dealing with it. Most of us as cyclists have all seen or experienced some sort of dangerous driving at the hands of motons at some point. If you say you haven't you can't ride many miles or you never ride on the roads. It's terrible, so many riders killed out right. Senseless.

No no, he's right to be honest, but can you really help it? It could quite easily be anyone of us next, I mean, in the last week, I could count at least a few close calls. It won't stop me riding but it is something at the back on my mind.

That aside, yes, I don't think I can actually reiterate how sad this is, and the worst bit is, I reckon the riders killed will be forgotten just because some junkie that killed the cyclists life story will make better news.

So what shall we all do, give up cycling, melt our bikes down and start driving everywhere?

What is there for me to take a chill pill about in saying we need to keep tragedies like this in perspective?

I would have thought keeping the risks of cycling in perspective is being chilled about it?

Sadly, Dilemna it seems that you want to divert attention from this tragedy and how it affects cyclists into a personal attack

The vulnerability of cycling really has come home to roost this weekend.

RIP to them all and sincere condolences to family and friends.

A black weekend for cycling.

    Dilemna,

You are the one making personal insults and telling people to take chill pills

Even the person I posted to says I was right with my comments re the need to keep the risk in perspective

Why are you seemingly intent on turning this threadaway from the tragic accident and into a personal mud slinging contest?

Yes truly tragic news, my thoughts go out to the families of those involved. Horrid business.
