IPhone or HTC Desire hd

I'm due for a new mobile in jan and i'm torn between 2, the iphone 4 and the HTC desire hd.
The wife has one, my mates have them and i've got an ipod touch, i fancy something different, after looking on the net and popping into shops the HTC desire hd gets recommended and generally gets better revews.
Has anybody got one and are they as good as they say, the only negative point seems to be the battery but that seems an issue on the iphone as well.

I've got an iPod Touch too, and I can't personally justify getting a iPhone as well. I think it's the fcat of having to pay up front for it as well as then paying your monthly bills. I'm getting a HTC HD mini when I upgrade I think0

I looked at both and found the iphone more to my liking.
Got a great deal, 29 quid for a 32gb then 35 quid a month fair usage internet, all the texts and call time I need. (750 texts, 500 mins) That was through work though.
It's a great bit of kit!0 -
Got a Desire - excellent piece of kit. £30 pm 300 mins (plenty for me) unlimited texts, unlimited internet.
People will never agree - get what you fancy (but make sure it is a Desire).

I've got an iPhone (3GS) and the wife has just got the Desire HD. The Desire is big compared to the iPhone, but you do get a lovely screen and it's incredibly clear. Very easy to use, once you get used to how it operates, and where everything is, however, the battery life is very poor. As I said I've got the iphone 3GS and the battery on that last much longer, even with the same amount of use. May have to tinker with the display settings on the HD to see if that improves things.
The camera has also been improved on the HD, now has a fantastic 8MP, and the pictures that it takes are very good. This compared with the crappy thing the iPhone has.
If you're carrying something this size of the iPhone, I don't suppose you're going to notice the size difference too much, however, I have to say that for usability and size, the iPhone still gets my vote.Limited Edition Boardman Team Carbon No. 448

iPhone 4 has a much better display and camera.0 -
iPhone for me. I've got one, it's great and I love it. I've played around with mates desire (oo err) but couldn't get on with it, but then I didn't want to.0

the desire. its a far better bit of kit, much faster, much more customisable, not locked into Apple (which is all the reason you need really!). and no, the iphone 4 does not have a better camera.0

My wife and I will be replacing our current phones shortly having opted for last years "iphone killer" the Palm Pre which is nowhere near as good as the reviews would have had us believe. We both fancy the iphone 4 but can't find a deal on our current £30 per month tariff that would allow one free so I'm looking at the Desire, seems to have all the functions and better in some departments just the app collection is more limited (although growing fast). The alternative is to buy the phone and try to get a deal like my colleague got the other day, £5 per month for 300 minutes 300 texts and unlimited internet  Over 24 months it will probably work out slightly cheaper but will cost more up front which is a problem.0

I guess it depends on what you think makes a phone better or worse than the competition! Or what you use it for.
For an all around gadget, the iPhone was best for me. But I'm not a business user, etc - so I'm sure there are better 'phones' out there for that.0 -
Just a word for the Samsung phones with OLED displays. They are absolutely wow-inducing.
Have a look in a shop!

Personally I would go for an Android phone over Apple. HTC Desire is an amazing piece of kit, but the Galaxy S is also very impressive, and IMO better than the iphone 4 also.0

The answer to this one is simple.
When you see another male cyclist wearing embarrassingly revealing tight lycra, do you think YUM or Eww.
If YUM - Get the Iphone
if Eww - Get the HTC.Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -

both good phones
neither really has better features, regardless of what anyone says about their phone. they are just being bias. so just get which ever you want the most, you wont be disappointed unless you make a compromised decision
btw the iphone 4 is better because i have oneCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
I've used the desire a lot, but I have an iphone 4 in a full hard case with integrated screen cover.
Personally the screen onthe iphone blows the desire out of the water. For me that is a dealbreaker; having spent time on it, i wouldn't go to anything worse, although the galaxy is somewhat interesting.
It isn't very flexible though, if you like tweaking and tinkering then the HTC is the way to go, if you prefer something that just works, and works well, then iphone.0 -
I had the HTC Magic for 9 months and then sent it back. The Android market has attracted application writers by not doing QA and thereby taking cut as Apple has done.
Once fully loaded with about 100 apps, I just found too many glitches (e.g. Bluetooth turning off when phone was answered) started creeping in. I don't see how this issue can be corrected in the Desire as it is a side effect of an unregulated app market.
Have had an iphone4 for a couple of months yet and find:
- display clearer
- screen easier to naviggate with
- texting/word editing not as easy
- battery life better
- no glitches
- applications much better/quicker e.g. when linking in different communications such as phone and web0 -

+1 had Iphone & V3 and now upgraded to the 4 and cant find any faults with it, though might be just me as I'm used to it & know that there are Apple haters out there.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -
I must be one of the few people who has an iPhone 3gs for free (it's a work phone) and am glad I'm not paying for it. It's simple to use - but I find the call quality average and the internet performance appalling ... it only really works well when I'm in my house and on wifi. There's no way I'd pay money for one - but if you're not very technical and just want a simple smartphone I think they're good - I'd get one for my wife (who's not into phone technology) - but I'll be moving to HTC as soon as my iPhone contract ends.
In fairness a lot of my complaints could be just as much about the network I'm on - Orange, which is the worst network for coverage that I've ever tried. I've previously used Vodafone, T-Mobile and Three and all have had miles better coverage than Orange - so make sure you choose a good network for your area because once you sign up your typically stuck for 24 months now - which is an eternity on a poor network for where you live/work.
Whichever phone you choose - a poor network can ruin the experience. My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0 -

+1 but the HTC is better because I've got one ;-)
The helpful phone people were impressed with the Nokia N8 as well. Let down by less symbian app store but new CEO of Nokia has mortgaged the future on it and its battery life & camera batter the rest into the ground. The HTC won out with the established and growing app market and its a prettier phone IMO. But in terms of functionality, theres not a fag paper between HTC & Iphone0 -

The magic is not the same proposition as the Dsire which runs android 2.20 -

But I can't see how that prevents applications interfering with each other or causing glitches based on a combination of applications. It is a lack of QA or vetting.0 -
the main application for cyclists is Memory maps.
Iphone version is stripped down with mapping licence restrictions, the Android version is less cut down and has no licence restrictions.
This means on Iphone to get all the maps in the country it costs £800, they will go out of date in a few years and you need to buy again. The android version accepts unlicenced maps, so if you buy your maps they are yours forever, you can share with friends, or make your own.
So £800 every few years or £5 once. not a hard choice. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -

What's wrong with google maps? Or even better, use a Garmin0 -
I Have the IPhone 4 and also the HTC hero with the latest firmware/software update and find the IPhone a bit slicker and less clunky. That's just my opinion0
