Assos uno or mille?

The uno vs. mille thing seems to have a lot to do with the padding up front, as opposed to at the rear. I was put off Assos for years after buying a pair of milles (orange pad) which I found instantly uncomfortable due to the thick padding in the perineal/genital area. If your saddle and position is set up properly you shouldn't need thick padding in this area, only on the sit-bone region, and in fact the extra padding will just increase pressure on delicate bits... However I recently tried on (and bought) a pair of the new S5 unos (turquoise pad) and they are completely different, great fit and very comfortable. Not a valid comparison perhaps as I'm comparing S2 milles with S5 unos, but from what I've read elsewhere the extent of the padding seems to be one of the main differences still between the two models.
Interesting to hear comments that the milles are longer in the leg than the unos, because to me the unos seem pretty long in the leg compared to my Campagnolos. I've actually got on pretty well with Campagnolo clothing, my only gripe is that the decals tend to peel off.0 -
By the looks of the web site the mille are for longer rides, im not going to be doing any racing anytime soon but plan on doing a few sportives next year and my local club regularly does rides of 70 to 100 miles, so i think these would best suite my needs.0

Hi folks,
Apologies for an old thread resurrection but it was thanks to this thread that I decided to go and buy my first pair of Assos bibs.
Went for the FI Uno and was impressed from the moment I got the parcel through the post. I'm a sucker for good packaging!
Bought some Assos chamois cream as well for the first time and they got their first ride today.
Applied the cream to the main sit bones area?? and away I went.
Only out for a couple of hours but from the moment I sat in the saddle they felt great.
I've had the same couple of pairs of Lusso shorts for, ahem, about 4 years...at least...and I was always a bit tight when it came to splashing out for Assos.
Wish I'd done it sooner. Fit great. Sooo comfortable
The S5 pad made it feel like my previously comfy Lusso's had a few sheets of kitchen roll stuffed into them.....guess they are far too old!
So....for anyone who is in a similar 'should I, shouldn't I' mindset...treat yourself!!!
Good day all round.....first ride on my 25mm Conti Gatorskins which seemed to make the ride more comfortable and also a decent ride for my new Spesh Alias saddle.
No numbness....hurrah!!0 -

I've got the Mille - Use it for really long rides. They are very good but I am sorry there is no way that I'd buy another pair. For fast approaching £150 They are just not worth the money. I 've done about 500 miles in mine and there is serious wear on the crotch. My Satini shorts have done five or six times that and have about the same wear.
You can buy 2 pairs of other manufacturers shorts for the price.0 -

I bought some DHB's last year but the quality and fit was nowhere near comparable with the Assos.
Nether was ,I suspect, the price0 -
One man's "too much padding" is another's "just right." This said, I'd chime in with my derriere's experience...
I have both the Uno and the Mille. Frankly, I find it really hard to tell the difference between the two (both green pads) except that the Uno's compress my (protruding) tummy more. I also have one of their 3/4 lenghts bibs with orange pad and the Uno and Mille are more comfy at the contact area with the saddle.
Where I feel the difference is when I go from my Assos to non-Assos shorts. I got Capo, bike branded shorts from Trek and Storck, and Serfas and I can't wait for those to wear out so I can replace them with Assos. They're not bad or unrideable. I just wish I spent more and went for Assos from day one.
Hope this helps!0
