how far would you upgrade a rockhopper?

    I must have the Deore M590 then, I can up shift in both directions.

    My bro's just built a Ragley MMbop with XT shifters and his shifting is in reverse? i.e his top lever does the opposite to my top. Are his wires crossed?

    I love rapid rise. I replaced the standard LX mech on my Rockhopper in 2006, with a rapid rise XT mech (Purchased in error - I didn't realise there was a rapid rise option). It took a few rides to get used to but I never looked back. Well until I bought my EX8, as I now have two bikes with different direction shifting options. This can get me in a pickle occassional. Need to replace the mech on EX8 soon with a rapid rise.
