Nope. It's a shame really - I made her a bike a while ago and then, stupidly, ruined it. After some good playing around on bikes in a park, we went to Afan.

She nearly died :( Not a good start.

Pity, since she's naturally much more skillful on a bike than I am. Properly so. In fact, embarassingly so.

Ouchhhh! I offered her a go on my spesh and she just refused knowing how much I love my bike :(

Don't really wanna risk putting her on any cheapo shoddy bike, might take her to a trail centre!

Mine does but she's a fair weather mountain biker and also she's not overly keen on busy trail centres, example she'd rather ride innerleithen Red XC than Glentress Red XC.

Annoying though she is significantly faster up any sort of incline than I am.

    In answer to the OP.

Pick a nice day for it, Choose a fairly easy going and quite trail/track and just pootle along. Plenty stops as well if needs be.

Nope, she'll come on the occasionnal leisure ride, but I mean occasional.

I quite like it like that though, it gives me my time away from her and it gives her time to do what she needs to do or wants to do.

    Do so, hire one.

I didn't make a shoddy bike in any way! It turned out a nice Kona hardtail frame, decent marz forks, shimano saint brakes, XT/LX drivetrain. It was a lovely little bike.

No sorry meant no offence in that, just that the only bike in her shed is around 15 years old and has a buckled rim :D

But yea I think she may be intimidated by the bigger boys thrashing round

SWMBO does come out for a spin now and then. i built up a little merlin steel frame with a few choice bits on. She loves the bike and enjoys off road ridding (we did Follow T Dog back in the summer) and we go for a pub run localy now and then.

She is a keen horse-ist tho so she would rather go out on her geegee than come for a bike ride, suits me :P thats her thing, this is mine.

no my gf hates the fact that i go riding most of the time because i work a lot and then go off and ride for 3 or 4 hours at a time! if she was into it then it might make it easier :D
  • I bought my OH a Scott bike a couple of years back as she wanted to go out with me on the bike and she fancied using it for commuting as well.

She's used it a grand total of twice so far

built my ex a lovely full sus trek fuel from old bits and pieces.

she didnt understand the gears, brakes, basically what any of the levers do, balance, why you should stand up for better balance.
it messed up her hair, was hardwork and she was scared of kerbs......
    i had no chance.

my mate now has custody of the bike.

  • My missus hates bikes, hates the fact I spend all my money on them, hates the fact I spend all my time talking about them or riding them, hates the fact the cars have to live outside because the garage is reserved for bike stuff, hates the fact all my clothes have oily chairing marks on them and hates the fact there's always a muddy tide mark in the bath.

She puts up with it though because if she didn't I'd d-lock the cnut.

nope, mine won't take a damn bit of interest in the dh scene, pi$$es me off a bit as i don't have a choice to take interest in what she's into, bloody women, she'd much rather go out on the horses. saying that she did pay for my frame sending off to get it fixed etc

Same with mine, however the bath and clothes thing is more my mums area as I still live with my parents :)
  • Mine has a bike and will on very rare occasions do an easy cycle, but our fitness/leg ache limits are too far apart for any proper riding. Once went out for a couple of hours with her on a horse and me on a bike, but horses want to go fast uphill and slow downhill, they like fireroad and hate singletrack - Fail.

Yeah my other half is into it, not as much as I am, if you asked her about whats a headset she'd be clueless.

She wants to do it but when something a bit unexpected or tougher than usual comes she locks up and falls off and loses all the confidence she built up.

The course she went on with chaseskills recently helped a lot she moves a lot better on the bike without her even realising it and she started to attempt some pretty evil drop offs recently.

Perserverance though, even if she loses all her limbs in the process I'll make her love it like I do!

    Muwhahaha.
  • My other half lives in France and yes she has a bike, a girlie bike with a step-through frame which she uses to commute, hell she'll cover 30 miles in a day
Cannot get her on to an MTB though, she doesn't trust them as she has had to put up with all my breaks, cuts and bruises.

She needs one of those downhill horses. They have 36" travel all round and longer front legs, so the head angle is a bit slacker.

    They're heavy though.

I think Orange make one. It looks like a cow and it's prety poor vfm, but What Horse Magazine say it's the bestest horse of teh EvAr.

Mrs Kilo loves cycling, she tries to get out off road most weeks and does trail centres when we can. She had a full susser before I did, has more kit than I do and has better road bikes than I have
She asks for advice on what kit to get and off she goes, it's great I've never had any grief about cycling kit, the other week she suggested I upgrade my tt bike - beautiful.

Other half is totally disinterested. Bought her a nice light Giant, didn't use it at all. Sold it. Complained she didn't have a bike, and wanted an older style Dutch bike with child seat. Purchased a kona africabike 3 and bells and whistles hamax seat. Even bought a brooks saddle from the CRC flood sale and lovingly softened it with grangers. It's been out the shed with her three times. I use it nearly every weekend for a shop run.

Tried to get the eldest into bikes, again failure. Youngest loves it though!

I have one thesame as that ! :D she spends as long (if not longer)than me 'fettling'/ doing the pre-ride and after ride stuff at the stables.... and asks what i find to do that takes so long in the shed ??
