Gorgeous things. I've got one of those on my desk, parked next to an 851. Lovely. I miss riding my SS, at least people could hear me coming. I appreciate nice things with 2 wheels with or without an engine.

There nothing like the sound of a Desmo in the morning....

Especially from the twins (916 et al).

Not the Ducati, but they have a few other models. Honda, Suzuki, BMW (yuk) KTM.

  • Rats, you got my hopes up then, a Desmo, that would be a brave move, but nice.
    I ache, therefore I am.
  • Phew. Thought I was going to have to hate you through raging jealously

Except that's a picture of an airfix model and not a real Desmosedici.

Edited to say I see you've owned up to it being a model and not the real thing.

  • You appear to have reversed the chainwheel and the rear sprocket.

The Doctor never rode for Ducati.

There is a forum member here who has a real one of these.

Valentino Rossi has his first ride on the Ducati he will be racing in MotoGP in 2011 at a test session in Valencia.
  • I'll be hornswaggled... Hadn't read that about Rossi on a Duc. Might make MotoGP worth watching again.

Probably tool! I'm not a big fan but there is no question that he is the greatest rider of all time. A few people might say Ago but the old boys used to have a few races over the weekend so they have greater race win totals, then again they had to race at the TT. Mike the bike Hailwood... number one!
I feel like i'm on the wrong forum but two wheels are two wheels and i've been knocked off both by four!

GAOT is a subjective term. I and many others think there are other riders more worthy of the title GOAT than Rossi. The likes of Hailwood, Duke, Redman, Saarinen, Roberts, Rainey, Lawson and Doohan. Winning lots of championships doesn't make a rider the GOAT. Agostini won plenty but then his MV was the fastest thing out there as was his Yam when he switched manufacturers. Lawson jumped from a title winning Yamaha to Honda and turned the worst bike in the paddock into the championship winner in consecutive seasons.

If we talk GAOT in terms of Rossi's clowning around then I reckon George Formby beats him to it.

you mention Eddie Lawson switching from Yamaha to Honda, but Rossi did this (Honda to Yamaha) in 2004 so he deserves credit for what he acheived in his years with Yamaha.

Your right though, the riders in the 50's and 60's were something special. my father used to go regulary to see the likes of Hailwood,Agostini,Read etc, it's a shame it was before my time

I'll always remember going with my Dad to my first ever GP, 1989 Donington Park seeing Schwantz, Rainey, Lawson, Gardnener etc ...... i miss the 2 strokes in a way :(

Rider to watch next season apart from the big four..... Ben Spies

  • I remember Sheene & Kenny Roberts at Silverstone when I was 9 on tv. Have been a fan of the sport ever since & I put Rossi up with the best ever. But you can't compare different eras in any sport in respect of who the GOAT is.

Rossi would refuse to race if you put him back in the 1970s. Hay bales in front of walls on corners. Yes I do watch the Isle of Man & the Northwestern when on tv & they are all mad even now.
