Delighted for the happy couple, well any two people who have found love and want to symbolise that with marriage.

But, oh hell, with all my friends getting married left right and centre, now this high profile one, espcially as they're in my age group (28-29), I'm gonna have Ms DDD on my back, big time!

Off to the shoe/handbag shop to get something to calm her down....

    From the BBC story
Ed Miliband said he was also delighted for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"The whole country will be wishing them every happiness."
What, even those Republican loving monarchy hating elements on the left of your party Ed?

It's OPs of that quality that keep this forum interesting.

Beautifully constructed with enough to keep posters going for days.

Apprantly a "great cheer" went up at the Cabinet meeting when the engagement was announced.... shouts of "Hurrah..." "God Save the Queen..." were heard, and dozens of top hats were thrown in the air.

To mark the occassion, prisoners will be released, pardoned and given millions of pounds..... Bankers will get Billions in bonuses as thousands of hardworking poor people are cast adrift and out of a job....

So to all the "it'll be paid out of tax payers money while me and my kids go hungry" types, are you saying that he shouldn't be getting married?

Not at all. Just that his old man should put his hand in his deeps pockets and fork out for it.

It'll be a driver for tourism which is one of the main jobs of the monarchy these days.

Trust me, this isn't drivel compared to most of DDD's posts.

Anyway, I hope the gold-plated scroungers choke on their very expensive wedding cake.

Good for them. In case anyone hadn't noticed we live in a country that still largely supports a monarchy, and until the lefties & republicans overwhelm us that's the way we'll stay so the Royal Famiy can keep marrying & begetting to their heart's content as far as I'm concerned. Who cares about the cost anyway? Not having a weeding won't make one jot of difference to the economy esp compared to what it'll bring in in real and intangible benefits.

Do the deed DDD. Either you're gonna stay with this lucky woman till you're a sad wrinkly old git like some of us already are so it won't make a difference to your life, or you're stringing her along and are therefore a bad egg. Offer to marry the woman, schedule it to clash with Wills & Kate for a larf. Once you've married her you get a lot more freedom and independent thought. My wife allows me that much at least, when it suits her anyway.

I'm in two minds, I'm happy for them. Both seem like decent people and I wish them well.

However, the cost of the matter has to be an issue. Is it really fair that what I presume to be millions of pounds of tax payers money goes on the wedding, at the same time as public sector workers are getting fired left, right and centre? Time will tell...

I'm gonna buy a plate and dinner service set.

I always used to think that the Monarcy plates, cup et al was a generational thing?

Do you think they'll actually release merchandise with their wedding photo's on it? Surely an OK magazine deal and putting the ceremony on YouTube would be more appropriate for the age group?

But no details of the wedding have been revealed yet*. Let alone who will be paying for it.

What if she wants a small wedding paid for by herself and hubby to be? What if Mr Middleton (Father) is uber traditional and says

"No, no Prince! I'll have none of it, Father of the Bride pays"

Of course the Conservatives are in power so they'll have none of that. Cameron's personal photographer has just found himself another Civil Servants job. We can expect the Greg's to put more hours in slapping people across the face with money. Poor people (anyone earning less that £47,000 and/or doesn't have hyphen in their name) will be forcably removed from the capital. The Olympics put on hold. And the £6billion going to Ireland diverted to spend on the big day.

No expense spared or too small. Britain is a World leading nation after all.

*I'm told my invite will be in the post. I helped pay for it. Do you think they'll thank me?

    End the monarchy.

It is an outdated insitituion with no place in modern society (just like religion).

I doubt the mental well being of any human being who refers another as "Your Majesty"

Religion is far more dangerous than the Monarchy....

Ours (monarchy) should be far more symbolic, a tourist attraction, a sort of Royal Disneyland where the tourists can see Her Maj hanging out the washing at Buck Palace. They hold no *real* constitutional power, so should be drastically reduced in number and subsidy. All for keeping it, but on a far smaller scale............... Anyway, it should ne the House of Stuart on the throne, but it was stolen by the Saxe-Coburgs....
