Quiet Turbo Trainer - Do They Exist?

Sorry if this is a question that pops up every few days, but I did try using the search tool and I only managed to pull up threads from last year.

Anyway, I'm looking to pick up a trainer, but I really want to get one that will not annoy the guy living in the flat above mine.

I'd be looking to spend no more than £250.

I think it largely immaterial as any turbo setup should include and massive big fan or two and they are very, very noisy so you will have to put with noise anyway.
  • I've just bought a Tacx Fortius and for the week I've been allowed to have it setup in the dining room. I'm using a mountain bike with a Continental hometrainer tyre and the lot is sitting on the carpet.

I would say the sound of the unit isn't that noisey and there aren't that many furnishings in the room.
  • Thanks for the info, guys.

I have a fan that I used to use with an old treadmill - it's not 'that' noisy, so hopefully that should be okay.

I've been doing a bit of research, and Cycleops products seem to get good reviews.

Most of the noise transmitted to neighbouring properties will be vibration through the fabric of the building rather than noise at source - make sure you put the turbo unit on an insulating mat (heavy duty carpet underlay or a foam rubber sleeping mat) and it will alleviate much of the noise transmitted into the floor etc.

+1, I have the Cycleops Jet Fluid Pro and it is quiet and has a very good "road feel" to it.
