Welcome to my work in progress thread ;D
This will be a slow build over the next couple of months as the parts come into the country. The Fox forks are due at the end of November along with the wheels.
A couple of random pics. No comments on my half dug garden please ;D ;D
The planned build is as follows
Wheels: No tubes ZTR Flow 29er rims on Gold hope pro 2
Forks: Fox 32 Talas 29 RLC 120mm in Black
Gold Hope BB
The rest of the kit will be coming off my pace, XO rear mech, X9 shifters, Hope mono mini brakes, Joplin 4 seatpost, white saddle and grips, XT crankset.
I'm not sure about stem and handlebars yet until I have it built, I will need to experiment with them to get ride and handling right.
I will update the pics as the parts go on.
Well, the Hope bottom bracket and seat clamp in gold turned up today, so they are on there now, its starting to take shape slowly!
Some pics of the new bits added.
Seatpost added.
XT crankset, XT front mech, XO rear mech and the rear caliper mount.
Pics.
Called into my LBS tonight to order my stem an the wheels were sat there by the counter all built up and good to go, they reduced me to rubble as sson as i saw them, a work of art. These pics do them no justice.
The build,
Stans no tubes ZTR Arch on Gold Hope pro 2's. I opted for the Stainless steel freehub.
I have been looking at tyres however I have been advised to wait until the new continental mountain king 29 comes out at the end of this month. 8-)

personally i would have gone with red bits though to match the pivots?I'm not old I'm Retro0 -
Lookin lovely, unlike the post above I think the red, gold and black works really well together, provides a stark contrast.0
-
Agreed with MountainMonster0
-

dribbles!!
Love the look of that bike! Very much!!!
but do agree, would have also gone red to tie in with the frame bits, but, gold, red black can work!Timmo.

Been at it again today.
Got the new black floating rotors from wiggle yesterday so they got fitted to the wheels today. I was thinking of going gold on the rotors but glad I didnt, the black shows off the gold hubs well! 8-)
I might keep the red rear QR, it goes with the red on the rear linkage.
Put the back wheel on to get an idea. Big wheels ;D
And the saddle fitted.

hmmmn, really liking that! although not so sure on the white rims for some reason?? looks good and matches the niner decals but think black could be stealthy??

Cheers,
Looking at it at first I wasnt sure about the white rims but they wont be so in your face with a nice chunky tyre on there plus the rims are pretty low profile. The fox forks that are going on are black rather than the usual fox white. the only other white bit to go on are the lock on grips.Niner Air 9 Rigid

I had never ridden one until I bought my On-One Scandal 29er. I struggled to find anywhere that had a demo bike to try so I just took a chance on it and bought the scandal, it was brilliant, even though it's fully rigid I was prefering to ride that over the FS. I found the 29er much more fun to ride than the 26er so again I bit the bullet and bought the RIP 9 Frame. Again a big gamble but I'm looking forward to it. Try and get yourself a demo on a 29er
LoUiS1985: I really dont know the weight, I do know it was nice and light just as the frame when bought. I'm not really a weight weenie when it comes to bikes. I reckon the final build weight will be in the 30lb region
Mark_K: I looked at the 140mm forks, but in the end I went with the 120mm's. From what I have read regarding FS 29er's a little travel in suspension feels like a lot more on 29er bikes. i.e, 120mm of travel can feel like 130 or even 140mm. Guess I will find that out soon!
Got some tyres for the rims now, conti Vapours, and the stem is on order, black hope with gold bar clamp.I have also just won a gold head doctor and grip doctors on ebay!. Without the forks now the build has come to a standstill.Niner Air 9 Rigid

Lovely looking stem! Love having the faceplate different colour to the actual stem itself. I think hope colours are too bright for a while stem to be the same colour. Should fit in nice with the build!0
-
That was my thinking, the whole stem in gold would have been too much for my liking. I am chuffed hope do little touches like this.Niner Air 9 Rigid

damn thats a nice stem and a good weight too. I just bought a 70mm Pro FRS as its so light and strong but now i want one of these with a red faceplate for my top fuel... did you have to contact hope direct to get the two tone look? Or through your LBS?
really enjoying the updates on this build!current whips

I initially emailed Hope to ask if it was possible to get that combo and they replied it wasnt a problem. I had to order it through my LBS.
I had a red hope stem on my old EX9, had I of known they did this option it would have been black stem with red plate.Niner Air 9 Rigid

I'm interested to know how you find this as I'm considering one of these or a Santa Cruz Tallboy and probably a similar build to yours. I'd be riding a mixture of trails and probably the Peak District and Clwydians.Santa Cruz Tallboy0
-
I have just been told that my forks didnt come into the Uk with this shipment so I will have to wait till the begining of Jan '11. I hope to be riding it a few days after they turn up.
I looked at the Tallboy but it looked a bit too XC race for me and I wanted something with a little more travel. All the riders I chat to in the States seem to love them. There are a few issues with the Niners in that if you want a particular colour you might have a good wait on your hands.
Do you live near North Wales? just looking that you will be riding the Clwyds.Niner Air 9 Rigid
