I have Mavic Crossmax SL's. When mounting tubeless do I need any rubber/plastic rim beading on the rim or can they fit straight onto the metal rim???

Nope - straight on, no strip required.0

Depends what year they are, newer ones use Mavic's Fore technology and don't need any rimstrip. Older ones are like a regular rim and require a rimstrip.
All SLs are UST, so you can put tyres straight on. The only ones that needed converting were the really old (pre-2000) ones which were just called Crossmax or Crossmax Disc. Since they've done the zicral spoke jobbies they've all been UST.0
