I have Mavic Crossmax SL's. When mounting tubeless do I need any rubber/plastic rim beading on the rim or can they fit straight onto the metal rim???

Depends what year they are, newer ones use Mavic's Fore technology and don't need any rimstrip. Older ones are like a regular rim and require a rimstrip.

Nope - straight on, no strip required.

All SLs are UST, so you can put tyres straight on. The only ones that needed converting were the really old (pre-2000) ones which were just called Crossmax or Crossmax Disc. Since they've done the zicral spoke jobbies they've all been UST.

They still use a Mavic UST rimstrip though and have seen plenty of them removed. So if the OP hasn't got one fitted and has the older (non Fore) rims, he's going need one.
