Help ! I've been tasked with our wedding music !

Right then folks, a little help is required............

I'm getting married in March and I've been tasked with the music for the ceremony. We're having a civil ceremony, so music with religious overtones aren't allowed. ie no hymns, or songs with too much reference to god.

I need songs for:

Madam to walk down the isle to.
To play during the signing of the register.
Us to leave the ceremony to.

So far, I've got two:

Madam to walk down the isle to : The Imperial March (Darth Vader, Starwars :D ) although I'm struggling to convince her that this one is a good idea !!
Signing of the register: Adele, Make you feel my love. (live if I can find it, but I'm struggling)

Any suggestions, serious or not, are more than welcome, but any suggestions which are derogatory are likely to be greeted with deserved abuse. (yeah, I know I've opened myself up to them now !)

Cheers........... Matt

I had a similar issue earlier this year. I pushed the isle music back onto her as it is her entrance and she didn't think my suggestions of Hendrix - Foxy Lady or The Doors - Twentieth Century Fox were suiting for the occasion. In the end she completely out did me by going for David Gray - Please Forgive me as it meant that she arrived at the end of the isle to the phrase 'it feels like lightening running through my veins when you look at me that way' - cue me to turn round and look at her that way :)

Then the 2 songs we had for the signing were - Phil Collins, Groovy Kind of Love (this one was almost a joke as it's so cheesy but it worked as we were going for a laid back fun sort of day) and Stereophonics and Jools Holland - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (she's a massive stereos fan and this is one of her favourites)

For exit music we had Queen - Best Friend.

Pet Shop Boys - What Have I done To Deserve This (as leaving music)
  • Had similar issue 2 years ago.

She also refused the imperial March and we played safe with the Queen of Sheeba.

That said, I had a quiet word with the quartet and they played the Imperial March as we entered for the wedding breakfast. Bride not amused, boys loved it.

    I like your thinking !!!!

I also like the idea of 'I want you' by the Inspiral Carpets, for the line "no one ever said it was gonna be easy" That's been poo pooed too !!

I ran the idea past her, apparently the lyrics:

I have been in 'n' outa you
    An' everywhere
    You want me to
    Yes, you know it's true
    And while
    I was inside
    I mighta been
    Undignified
    And that is maybe
    Why you cried
    I don't know
    Maybe so,
    But what's the difference now?

aren't suitable.............. there's no pleasing some is there ?!!?!?

Stay away from the Maldives. This has just been reported on the BBC site. Initially it amuses like schoolboy humour, and then you start to think about it and it is a little bit worrying.

Foxy lady is on the short list for her to walk down the isle to (well, she's letting me think it is !), but there's one condition............... I have to do the dance from Wayne's World !!!

That may not be the threat that she thinks it is !!

  • For the first dance you should do what the last three weddings I've been to did.... Say you want something original, that no-one else has but with a classic bent then have Nobody Does it Better.

    Or Baby Got Back.
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

  • For signing the register we had the "Halelujah Chorus" !! My son who is marrying soon has asked all invitees to nominate two songs of their choice which will be put together for the reception.

I think I'd steer clear of that, as it's all about a woman in love with a man who won't "commit". I can just imagine the lyric "I know you haven't made your mind up yet..." as you are about to sign, whereupon you are suddenly seized with doubt and run from the room before it's too late

Choosing the right music is going to be a minefield - I wonder why she's passed sole responsibility to you?

A while ago a couple of friends got married at Chatham regisrty office and asked for Oasis "Wonderwall" as they walked down for the service. Unfortunately, they weren't too hip and groovy at the registrars and pulled the song off a NOW compilation. Yes the bride and groom walked down to Mike Flowers Pops version of Wonderwall. Still makes me chuckle.

    As you leave the church

Angry Anderson's classic has been covered by one of the current Neighbours cast and played as he walked down the aisle on screen and it will be released as his first signal. I think we can safely say that it won't be a patch on the original.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
