You guys in the UK are lucky, you've got some serious mud.....
Cheers, yes we do have a lot of wet mud, but trust me I'd rather be riding on the dry stuff!
Did the Penmachno in Wales on Saturday for the first time, it was ace. Only fell off twice too, which was nice. Here's the video I took http://vimeo.com/16825746 Sorry about the language towards the end....0 -
And NN maybe ok on a bit of grass or dirt, but no one i know will use them if you see a root or a rock on the track. There far more XC race tyres than grippy trail tyres.[/quote]
i use nics all year round, in mud, on rocks and roots and have no problems whatsoever. far more confidence inspiring than the high rollers i had before..0 -

I've been happily using the Zesty for my commute to work, it's 3.5 miles each way and I have indoor secure storage for it when I'm in work, however with the weather closing in and the gritters not far away I've decided it might be a good idea to have another bike to use.
So this morning I dug out my dads old Townsend 'Team Elite' which he no longer uses and gave it a good going over, plus replacing a few parts with bits I took off the old Hardrock when I upgraded it ( my brother now has the Spesh otherwise I would have just used that! ) It doesn't look half bad now, and I don't need to worry about getting mugged on the way home after a late shift

Wonder if you can get terror pins for plastics ehhh dan?0 -
Loving the Lapierre, I think that it's the first i've been really gobsmacked at how good they look. I think this is probably one of the best looking bikes i've saw for a while.0
-
After all that work I used the Townsend for all of one commute, my back just didn't like it
The Zesty has had it's free 6 week service at Twelve50 bikes but other than that I've just been using it 8)
Peaks a few weeks back
The lake at Delamere Forest (I'm pretty sure Jay12 and his mates were over at the skills area the Saturday I went)
Just local in the recent snow

Replaced the seat clamp that came with the Zesty today, it seemed to be made of a French cheese based metal and has been pretty useless the last couple of rides. There was a Teflon coated shim but the Teflon has worn away and the clamp was eating itself!
Old clamp
New Hope goodness with a nice fat brass shim!

Those OEM clamps are nasty piece of work. I would have to replace mine too. Thought of Hope but going for proper built Chromag bling. What could have been (Video)
I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though0 -
What's the little carbon fin over the rear dérailleur called, and who makes it?
I live in Swindon, and all the singletrack is grass-filled mud.
Seriously screws with jockey wheels.Big guy; small air!0 -

Ah cool. Are they any good for keeping mud out of the dérailleur? Looks pretty cool anyway.Big guy; small air!0 -

Can't say I've noticed it keeping mud off the derailleur and it certainly doesn't stop grass and mud getting in the jockey wheels, it has took a couple of scrapes from rocks though so it does protect the main body of the derailleur from knocks. You can buy the guard separately from We Love Lapierre but as it's made specifically for the Zesty, Spicy and Froggy it would probably be difficult to get it to fit other bikes.

Its the first time I've seen your thread and as soon as I saw your pic at the top of the page, I recognised it from mbuk. well done mate and nice bike. Is that just a really shallow lake it was taken in.0

Cheers for the comments, photo was taken by my mate on my phone but I'm keeping the prizegetonyourbike wrote:Is that just a really shallow lake it was taken in.
The lake had been frozen and was just beginning to thaw so there was about half an inch of water on the surface, it was very, very slippy! Not too deep under the ice which was still a good 5 inches thick and I didn't go too far out.

I've removed the big ring and added a bash guard as I never used the big ring and I quite often chewed the teeth on logs and rocks. I've stuck with the original 32T ring as I'm quite happy with the gear ratios I get. Anyway you all know what a bash guard looks like but here's some pics anyway.

Did the Isle of Man End2End on the Zesty last weekend, it was pretty muddy in places in fact at one point I had to stop to scoop out mud around the front mech/crank/chainstay as it was slowing me down! Finished in 6hrs 39mins, I had hoped for closer to 5hrs but in the end I was just pleased to see the finish
Video including a couple of falls, one of which is my own

Hi. I've just picked up a 2011 Zesty 214 in the clearance sales. Obviously spec isn't as good as yours, but if the base bike puts a grin on my face, like your 314 has for you, I'll be well happy.
I wasn't planning on buying a Zesty, but when I test rode it, I too couldn't resist. It arrives early next week.0 -
It was a pretty muddy one that's for sure. 5:39 for me, a good hour slower than I was hoping for and possibly the hardest E2E I've ever done. Too many people getting off to push up anything but the gentlest of slopes.

You going to be back next year then?0 -

Yeah, there were a lot of people pushing up, don't get me wrong I was doing a fair bit of pushing up hills myself although I did stay well off the riding line unlike some muppets!
As for next year, I said at the time I'd never do it again, but now I'm looking forward to the challenge, I may even do a bit more training for it!0 -
Nice Bike Dan,
I have a Zesty 214 (10) - Excellent bike.
How have you found the Hope Seat clamp, thinking of getting one myself but have seen negative reports...?
Cheers,
Matt0
