I find montane featherlite pants keep the wind off, but don't really have much insulation on their own.

This is ideal for me at the moment, as it cuts down on windchill.

Even in the past few years when we have had ice and snow about I found a long sleeve heavey cotton t-shirt from primark and the Altura Night Vision jacket enough for on top. It only takes 5 mins to warm up. DHB waterproof gloves for the hands. I cycle in jeans all year round (good protection when you get knocked off) and my Doc Martens are great for keeping warm in wet winters and kicking cabs that get too close. I have a set of over trousers that are waterproof for the days it is raining or lots of surface water. All bought for under £80.
