painful topic,
can some people who have been Jaffa'd let me know how long it was before a return to the bike?
i had it done two weeks ago today, the quack said two weeks but to be honest the old goolies are not feeling up to it...
it no longer feels like i have been repeatedly kicked in the sack like it did a week ago, not even taking painkillers just the odd sitting down wince, still abit tender.just wondering when this subsides!
any help gratefully received, was on holiday before, had wisdom tooth out week before, and now on 6th week off bike and going stir crazy!

What a topic to decide to register and send my first post to!
I had the minor op at the end of September - took a couple of days off work taking it easy (as easy as you can with two small boys crashing about).
Got to admit it sounds like you've got worse pain below because although I was tender I didn't need painkillers and found the biggest discomfort to be the hairs growing back from where I had to clear the area!
The nurse had said I could be back on my bike the next day if I felt like it - though it wasn't recommended and you increase the risk of complications setting in.
I cancelled the 100km I had planned for 6 days after the op - never seriously expected to do it!
Went out for a couple of hours off-roading one night about 10 days after the op. I still had a slight tenderness below but just put my saddle a couple of inches lower which had the effect if lifting my bits up off the front of the saddle. Didn't seem to irritate anything - though we're all individual! The lycra shorts do help to keep everything firmly in place as well which helps!
6 weeks off the bike - that sounds like hard work!0 -
I was back on the bike for some light commuting after a week (1 mile), very slowly built up after that.
2 weeks doesn't sound like anything to be too concerned by, especially as it's improving.
Hang in there you'll be back on the bike before you know it. Listen to your body!!0 -
I gave it a couple of weeks and tried to stick to smooth roads. Every time I went over a pothole, it felt like I was being kicked in the nads. I think it was about 3-4 weeks before things were 'back to normal'.0

i am forcing myself to adhere to those last words, head says do it but its so bloomin frustrating. I have a trip to Spain MTBing in two and a half weeks and am conscious not to rush back and mess that up, but equally my cycling mates are going to be in the distance after my lay off and thats really annoying.0 -
I wasn't cycling at the time of mine but I wouldn't have risked it until the stitches had fully dissolved so probably around 10 days. As above, you'll know when you will be able to chance it. Everyone heals differently and better to have another week off than risk unnecessary pain.0

mine was august 17ish, commuting after a fortnight, proper rides after 4 weeks, but still go numb on long rides. my 3 year selle italia (have doen centuries on it fine) is now my least favourite and the specialized toupe feels better than ever before. A minute out of the saddle lets them recover and it takes about half an hour to build up.
most uncomfortable is cobbles, holy dooly the first time i went down them and just unweighted myself, allowing everything to vibrate in some harmonic frequency, i only had 100m to do but it was more than enough. moral of story, either stay down and let saddle support you or get well up so they do not bounce around like peas on a drum.
oddly for me the left one was sore from day one, the right never hurt at all. so it cannot be me and how i respond to pain, it must be something else, not sure what though.
good luck with it

I had it done about 20years ago I had no problems but.

Which side did you have done first? I was warned by the surgeon that the second testicle works out what is happening and retreats inwards and is therefore harder to operate on as they have to dig around to get it out. It could well be that this leaves it more tender for longer afterwards.0 -
Wasn't cycling when I had mine done but I was doing cabinet work. Had the snip on Friday and was in the shop hefting plywood on Monday.
Sorry for your luck.0 -

Wow, the second testicle sees what's happened to the first and tries to hide! Maybe there's some truth to the female line that we all keep our brains in our balls!0 -

sounds implausible but the second was more difficult, took an extra syringe of numbing juice and hurt more. interesting, clever little boll0cks arent they0 -

I suspect that it is actually both react to the pain but it's too late for the first one by then. It was definately true though. I was also prescribed a local anaesthetic for the injection a few days before but given no instruction on when it should be applied, I therefore had to have the injection without it - made my eyes water a bit!! :shock:0 -
I was out on my christmas do a couple of nights after having it done and got back on my bike the week after christmas, took about 12 days off. and was very gentle the first week or so on it again.
had a bit of an issue with one of the dissolvable stitches not doing so and pulling tight. that was a bit gnarly getting it out but the relief when it gave, aaahhhhhhhh.0 -
I hate to add another element to this, but the snip is ok - but the reversal is on a whole different level...
On the plus side - had the snip done on the NHS - had to shave myself. The reversal was done privately - they do it for you!Chocolate makes your clothes shrink0 -

I was fine whilst the first one was done, whilst 'rooting around' for the second one they inadvertantly stimulated the vagus nerve causing my heart rate to slow and I passed out briefly, then woke up drenched in sweat. Top fun for all concerned!
Scary stories aside, I played football )with two pairs of cycling shorts on) after a week and was back riding after two. I have had zero post op problems since then.0 -

lol - nope - I neglected to say that you get shaved after they render you unconscious.
97th choice - i had forgotten the sweating - I remember being a human Niagara Falls when it was done the first time. Then the surgeon, whilst wielding a wicked looking scalpel, starts a jolly chat. I have never tried so hard in my life not to be funny - I was worried I would make him laugh while the blade was busy and end up with a cut too far.Chocolate makes your clothes shrink0 -

Well it sorted out my initial concern that I might get aroused during the procedure that's for sure!!0

I wouldn't have it done for any reason - or any woman!0

Yep, even made the papers http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-16449119-rugby-fan-cut-off-his-own-testicles.do0 -
thanks for the replies, i am getting annoyed now its 2 days past two weeks ago and still blinking sore. i dont think there is really any reason for concern just annoying me the time its taking.
Pross - your concerns of arousal - briefly crossed my mind, especially as there was a fairly tasty female student doctor having a broddle around, any worries were dispelled the moment real doctor got a piece of paper with a hole in it over my todger, must have looked like a cherry on a cake...0 -
Very tasty redheaded nurse attended my snip. The possibility of arousal was ruled out by having her tape my dick to my abdomen then attack my scrotum with a syringe of local anaesthetic while uttering the classic "Just a small prick "
Things were a bit tender for a couple of days, but I was unfortunately able to drive and go to work the morning after an evening op.
No cycling for about a week, but I did bump into the nurse at a weekend football match both our sons were playing in!
I too found the self dissolving stitches didn't, and started to feel uncomfortably tight so I took them out myself using the remnants of my student dissection kit.0 -
+1 re cobbles
Was my 12th day post op yesterday and went our for 8 miles on mtb. Only bit that hurt was 20yds of cobbles.
Re the op, I had mine done by an old work colleague and he did the shaving and op as we spoke about the old times
Also ended up removing the stitches myself (well wife did with some fancy sharp sewing scissors) as they were too tight and cutting into the skin0 -
Another with an undissolved disolvable stich - only one and it took weeks to go!0
