They are going to need to start riding together as that gap looks like it's increasing....

I think it's going to be a two horse race now.

I guess Scarponi all need to get away on the climb as Gilbert is a favourite for the sprint?

Scarponi has to attack Gilbert on the climb.
If he can't drop him, he's doomed.

    just tweeted by vaughters

As per the agreement of Sept. '08 between ASO and UCI, if Scarponi gets 1st or 2nd, Diquigiovanni is guaranteed a start in the TdF.

Yes, they get in top-17 of the World Rankings with the points today. Sky or Quick Step might be outside, not sure.

Fuglsang driving the chase which looks unlikely to succeed.

    And... There goes Gilbert!..

    Scarponi did a Schleck there!

I thought so as well. He looked flummoxed by something. The little speed bump didn't help.

Gilbert getting a little bit cocky there! Still 1.4 km to go...

Well done Gilbert, especially in that weather.

Wonder how many finishers they'll be today?!

Superb. Hardly a surprise but no less impressive.

The chasing group never looked like having a chance of catching him.

Excellent race. Unfortunate Nibs decking it.

But Pip's final attack was brilliant. Sheer power.

Great race to watch. Very significant role for the weather, both keeping attacks on the climbs limited, and completely shattering the group on the descent, which appeared decisive. But of course a good deserved win for Gilbert

I enjoyed a nice bit of vintage racing there like the old days.
Shoulder to shoulder until the best man wins, great stuff.
I'm sorry but if he still had it in his legs then he would have made it up again but it was too much to do it yet again.
whatever it was outstanding riding from the pair of them.

yes, I've been in the Parc des Princes with the Anquetil chanting, which still rings in my ears

AG2R are out, with Quick Step holding on in 17th. Sky are about 100 points further up the road, so are safe. I think!

    Amazing Gilbert!

The final climbs was the grave of many rider, Uran lost 4 min in to Km!

Just 34 riders have finished, epic.

Chechu Rubiera say good bye in the 25th position
