Great news everyone.

39teeth just tweeted that DDL's ban is being shortened by 6 months by Mr Torri for cooperating.

So we'll be seeing his exciting style of racing back in the peloton soon. Perhaps in time for the start of the new season!

Assuming there isn't a barge pole clause somewhere which scares teams off.

I think there's been talk of a move to the fragrant footed Geox team.

It is frustrating, you think a new team would be interested in new talent but no, they're talking about an old dog. The same for Rebellin. It has been clearly demonstrated that these guys only win races with significant doping programmes. Signing them suggests these teams are asking few questions and most probably saying "don't get caught again".

I thought he was still denying it - anyone know how you can deny having doped but cooperate ? I never doped - but if I had doped this is the guy who would have supplied me with the gear ?

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

    Torri: "Everyone's doping"
    Gilbert: "No they're not"
DiLuca: "Yes, they are. Except me, of course"
Torri: "Thanks Danny, here's a six month reward"

The Tifosi, by and large, dont give a damn about dopers and still idolise their riders whatever their transgressions.

Employing the Killer will give Geox even more publicity in Italy, it's a far more lucrative move for them than employing some up and coming clean (and by definition therefore, non-italian) rider.

A sad state of affairs, but Italy and corruption have been bedfellows for eons, it's more a way of life.

Sounds like that might be right. He's ban is finished and he can race now.

One exciiting rider leaves, another one comes back. It's the circle of life.

Lampre must be pissed off, they are meant to be the first point of call for returning dopers, no?

One thing that provides me with some comfort is that he'll be under Gianetti's wing.

Has he publicly said anything about his own offences (besides "I didn't do it")? Has he come clean?

Sounds more like he is being let off just so he can go back to racing again.

On another note how come Kohl came clean and revealed all but on CN the other day they said he has a lifetime ban, despite ONE failed test only.

kinda controversial (straying into the Contador thread here...) but if a rider publicallly confesses AND dobs in another rider/DS that leads to a bust then I think a slightly reduced ban is a good thing as it encourages riders to break the omerta

notwithstanding the above - Di Luca hasn't done the repentance thing so b0ll0cks to him

I saw that too - don't think they are correct though - he got a 2 year ban. He retired from the sport AFAIK (possibly related to the amount of spittle he left in the soup).

    Three cheers for the Killer...

Basso, Millar, Vino ...and now Danny DiLuca.

Do this mean that the war on doping is being won? The Killer -- giving up the goods.

I'm sure Contador finds this reassuring though.

"I gave no names," said the Italian, a former one-day classics specialist. "I did it for (the good of) cycling, not to point the finger at any cyclists. I explained the methods (of doping). My decision to speak was above all to help educate the youth."

    Of course he did.........................................

    INTERIOR- DAY - CONI HQ

Di Luca: Look, I'm not the only one at it. They all are.
Torri: All of them? Even Gilbert and Moncoutie?
Di Luca: Yes all of them. You could say I'm the victim here, really.
Torri: Maybe, but I'm not so sure. I'll have to check with my sources

    Torri dials his mobile

Torri: Riccardo? Danny here says everyone is doping and you're all victims
Ricco. The Cobra is the greatest. Others are not true champions. Gilbert is not a true champion. He doesn't follow Pantani.
Torri: I'll take that as a yes then
Ricco: And those pills in the wall. Just aspirin. I was keeping them away for the baby. He seems to love pills.

    Torri dials again

Torri: Ciao Ale-Jet. What do you say?
Petacchi: All of them ! Especially Cavendish. Can you get Cavendish like you got Valverde
    Torri: Probably not
Petacchi: Well, get him thrown off the Giro for being stroppy, and I'll say anything you want
    Torri: Done

    Torri dials a third time

Answer phone: Michael Rasmussen is not available he's in Mexico
Torri: No, you're not, you're dancing on Danish TV
Answer phone: Er... That was pre-recorded.

Torri: Well, well, well, Danny. No-one disputes that everyone dopes. You really have opened my eyes. You have really explained the methods of doping and how far it goes. So what are your future plans?
    Di Luca: Signing for Lampre
Torri: Lampre? My sheet metal needs are already satisfied. Any other offers?
    Di Luca: GEOX maybe?
Torri: Shoes ! Mrs Torri loves shoes. Let's make a deal.

By what I saw on media, no.
He just mentioned something like "..I explained how it works and what you get offered...".

No need to get balaclava'd up and go round his house and knee cap him Dave... it seems that he didn't grass on any of his fellow dopers. Phew! Welcome back to the peleton...

How can you get 9 months off a 24 month ban, and you don't even have to admit you did wrong. This sends a strong anti-doping message, NOT.

    From the cyclingnews article;
Alessandro Petacchi, for example, who is a great friend of mine, knows well that I have never mentioned his name, just as I didn’t name any of my other fellow cyclists.”

Why would Petacchi be worried about what Di Luca might have to say about him while being questioned about doping practises? :?

  • I was once gifted one of the pro cycling magazines and Di Luca was on the cover and I had to look closely to make sure it wasn't Lance Armstrong, the way the picture looked. http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/new ... 500-70.jpg Here are the two together. On that cover, he really did look a lot like LA even if it's easy to tell them apart.

On the surface - this appears to be a f--king joke. 9 months off!? No names and probably told them stuff they already knew. Unless his info leads to some big scalps, then it completely sends the wrong message.

I now fully expect Contador to get a one year ban. But it will be reduced by 9 months when he 'cooperates' with authorities. Therefore he will end up serving the 3 month ban that was originally proposed.

What a disgrace that man is, not a hint of remorse, keeping the omerta going. What a joke this sport is at times! It is almost an endorsement for doping, he is a joker.
