re: Moyles - the obvious joke is he is getting paid per joke now.
I used to listen to him, but now listen to Chris Evans0 -
I've no particular axe to grind with Moyles, I think he's an idiot and a crap DJ but it's the BBC's fault that he's so overpaid and people must listen to him as his ratings are still pretty high. Would anyone else turn down that kind of salary just to get up early in the morning and talk crap for a few hours?
I did used to listen to him when he was first on Radio 1 but I think like all things he's got a shelf life and it's nearly over. The fact that he's on a 1 year contract with the BBC probably reflects that. Not sure what his future holds after the breakfast show...any other job will always seem like a step down after you've done what in Radio terms is the big one and none of his other career moves in TV have been successful. Fearne Cotton may be bloody annoying but she has much more of a face for TV!
I find most Radio 1 DJs annoying and now listen to Radio 2 mainly when in the car but I guess that reflects the fact that i'm about to enter my thirties."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -

On top of that he has just split from his GF of 8 years so was feeling a tad delicate.
However I take all your points about Radio 1 DJ's - bunch of muppets. However you are all missing the worst of the bunch - Scott "f***wit" Mills who treats his listeners like 5 year olds. Whilst murdering the english language - please can any tell me what the hell OFF OF actually means, worst of it all it has now permeated the rest of the BBC, some TV announcer used it the other day. For example - Up next is Bradley Wiggins, off of Team Sky!!!!!!!!
Agree one million percent.
As for Moyles, he's a bit tragic I think. Too old for it really. However, i'd be a bit annoyed if i'd not been paid for two months. Wouldn't everybody? Comments about him being fat are surely beneath anyone who is not a moron.0 -

Not a fan of Moyles either talent wise but the point about his employer not paying him is a valid one. He should have dealt with it privately however.[/quote]
+1. A rant like that in front of customers would be at least misconduct (if not gross) where I am.0 -

Customers? Surely licence fee payers are his employers financial backers!0 -

I would imagine that Moyles is self employed. He will be contracted by the BBC.
That is quite different from an employer/employee situation.0 -
Such a fat c%nt he is, can't stand listening to him if the radio in the car happens to fall upon radio 1. What a waste of airtime his show.0

I was going more along the lines of we pay the BBC and they provide a service for us. Although as others have said it's more complicated and of course you don't need to pay the licence fee to listen to him on the wireless.0 -

Personally I find this vitriolic hatred quite disturbing - along with the gross generalisations that have been thrown around. I am sure a lot of the posters wouldn’t like to be branded with the "Daily Mail Reader" tag - but a lot of the posts are, in essence, the exact type of journalism that you see in those type of papers.
For the record I quite like Chris Moyles, find him funny, and suspect that the amount that he is paid represents a fair market value for what he does (not think I necessarily think it should). I am also reasonably confident I don’t fit into any of the stereotypes that have been shared above about his listeners.0 -

Nowt to be ashamed of there fella...in fact, i'd be far more embarrassed listening to radio 1.
Radio4 - The start of all good comedy on the BBC, great satire, good discussion by intelligent people and 'Any Questions'!

welcome to the forum, Chris....0 -
I've listened to radio 4 since I was a youngster, with late night helpings of John Peel for a bit of variety. I'm even weaning my wife onto Radio 4.
These days Radio 1 just makes me angry. Too much of the music is rap or dance which I detest, and the DJ babble is mind numbing in it's banality. If that's all there was to listen to, I'd perforate my own eardrums with a QR skewer.
I am a grumpy old git.0 -
Radio 1 DJ banter has always been sh1t though - Even going back to the days of Tony Blackburn, Simon Bates, Paul Burnett, DLT and even Steve Wright - they all talked a load of bollox....0

+1.
The only daytime DJs I remember who actually cared about music rather than the sound of their own voices were Mark & Lard.
The rest of them are just pump out inane mindless shite.
Having worked in a job where radio 1 was on all day, it's utterly mind-numbing - every single DJ plays the same f**king songs as every other f**king DJ day after motherf**king day. I wouldn't mind if there were only about 20 singles out at any one time, or if they had very limited resources, but (blah blah blah blah)... (dies from sheer anger)0 -
The Chris Moyles show is about the only show worth listening to on Radio 1 and as the BBC's flagship radio station thats a sad state of affairs.
I listen to it every morning on my way to work because its just a load of mates sat around having a chat and a laugh, seems like a good way to start the day to me!0 -

Surely that is the same with the format, be it Steve Wright with his group of irritating sycophants or Chris Evans when he was doing the breakfast programme. As said before Mark and Lard were great, with a genuine interest.0
