But untill ive ridden the bike on a decent ride on a familier route, how can a spin up the road help me decide.
I'd say 20 min on any undulating road with a less than perfect surface should give you a good idea especially if you are riding the bikes back to back.0 -
I'm not lucky enough to have a decent bike shop near me. I will have to buy from the internet or Evans. I will have £1000 to spend. Ribble carbon or Trek Ally? Weekend rider and charity rides. I presently have a Ribble 653 thats 20 years old. Carbon or ally? Will I notice a difference from my Reynolds steel?0

a problem having bought a bianchi 4 weeks ago ? exactly my point,4 weeks in and i need to know if in the future be it a week or year will my upgrade be ali/carbon.
As for not being experienced enough to know the difference,i've done enough different sports to know technology will leave you behind if you dont imbrace it.
Its just finding the right technology and swerving the B.S.meggiedude wrote:kenniff wrote:twotyred wrote:And that i suppose is the problem, without buying a carbon i wont know if it is worth it.
Absolute nonsense. Find a good bike shop, explain what you want to use the bike for get their recommendation of carbon and aluminium bikes then test ride a carbon bike vs. an aluminium bike. If they won't offer test rides find another shop.

It pays to get to know a lady a while before you move in with her...LOL
Go with the one you are most comfortable on.
But I am a little confused. Your post above says you bought your first bike, a Bianchi, 4 weeks ago. Its a little late to start asking these questions now isn't it?Easy life0 -
Bar Shaker wrote:Price is the big confuser. I love my Armani shirts but they are no better than my Lewins or Pinks, despite being three times the cost. They are probably all made in the same far east factories, before getting their labels sown on...much like most carbon bike frames.
Compare and contrast:
Ribble Scuro - £995 (includes prices for fork and headset not given in this page)
Guerciotti team replica - £1600 inc forks & headset
Now, the Guerciotti has a much nicer paint job in my opinion...Not sure I'd pay that much extra for it, though.0
