Powertap cadence

Why when im on the flat doing 330ish watts and a cadence of 90 i am ok but when i have similar cadence and power on hills i blow up?
I've just borrowed a powertap and there's no wonder im a crap climber, going really slow in my smallest gear 39-25 on a 16% hill i do 330 to 400 watts.
I can sprint and hit 1350 watts, i would say i could probably get out another 100 or so watts but ive just had a few slack weeks on the bike.
Im 6ft and 87kg at the moment.
I'm going to check what i can do for an hour, last time i checked about 2yrs ago (last time i borrowed the powertap) i did 235, i think on the turbo i can prob do 260ish.
Knowing how i push myself on the road and when riding with others i think i could prob do around 300 on a flat 1hr circuit.
I NEED HELP ON THE HILLS

You're 87 kg, what you expect?
I was massively overweight at 83kg and I'm your height. I don't think you realise just how heavy you are.I climb faster then you.0 -
Im usually between 80 and 90kg, my bodyfat its 14%...I'm carrying to much muscle... Ron Burgandy was right, its the guns "they'll get ya"0

I sure you are averaging 330 watts on the flat, or are you taking advantage of the terrain and cruising a lot more?
However the nature of pedalling at 90rpm is different between a steep gradient and the flat, so it's not too surprising you'll feel it differently.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
Not sure what i average on the flat but i can push 330 watts for a fair distance, im not bad on the flat, i can do just under 25mph on a local flat 30 mile route.
Hills mess me up though, im fine at a constant pace but stop start im not so good at even though im a good sprinter.0 -
If you can push out 330w on the flat 'for a fair distance', then your FTP should probably be much higher than than 235. Or even 260.
My FTP is around 260 and I can't hold 330w for more than a few minutes on the flat.0 -
I think you've got to lose body mass, even if that is reducing muscle.
I can tell the difference between 83kg and 80kg. In fact sometimes I feel I don't need scales, I reckon I can tell my weight to 0.5kg just based on climbing performance!0 -
Yeah, lose some chub. I'm 71 KG and 2 inches taller. FTP is around 280'ish.
Hills dont bother me much0 -
6ft 2 and 71kg?!
I'm 6'1 and my LEAN MASS is 72KG.--

Yep, well ok, I just got on the scales and it's up to 71.8 but I've not done much since my last TT a couple of weeks ago!0 -
The lowest I ever measured was 73kg, I was dehydrated and fatigued from a hard ride. I was really 75kg and about as lean as I dared, which was to that 'haunted Monty Burns' look.--
