Is there an anergy bar out there that packs a good caffeine punch along with creatine?
Any recommendations?
Browsing CRC website, there's loads of stuff available but they don't list ingredients.
Cheers,
Chris

I'm slightly confused. What do you want this bar to do? I thought creatine was for a longer term effect, whereas caffeine is for a short term effect.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

Just throug some blurb I read on a website.
Apparently the combination of the two are good for performance enhancement, with the caffeine giving a boost, and the creatine aiding recovery (although I have no idea what I'm talking about and am happy to be corrected.)
I've been trying the Access bars and although I was deeply sceptical to start with, they do seem to actually have an effect.
From what I've read though, caffeine is just as effective so I was wondering if there was something better out there?

I was under the impression creatine was not so good for cyclists.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

Not sure about bars but the Zipvit gels pack a pretty meaty caffeine punch. They claim as much as 2.5 cans of Red bull in each sachet!!
I took one with about 40 miles to go in the Tour of the Black Mountains (120 mile route) and I've got to say it was a great lift. In fact the last 20 miles were my best of the race!!Winners never quit and quitters never win!!0 -

Do get these online or from a shop. They used to sell them in one of the walking shops but seem to have stopped. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns

Depends where you live. I tried them for the first time having bought in Bike Treks in Ambleside when I was up there following a recommendation from a guy in the shop. At the moment I've bought on as an adds needs-basis from Evans near me at Lakeside in Essex.
I'll buy a box next year, as I personally like them, as well as giving a bit of energy, I popo one in every 20 mins or so and it just gives you something else to think about/chew.
If you want it in one go and your stomach can handle the Aspartame then SIS do their Caffeine gel which gives a good kick as well, but it tastes like cr@p even though they claim it Blackberry flavour.0 -
Thanks guys, appreciated, I'll check those out

I've used Maximuscle Viper Extreme bars in the past. They contain cafeine and guarana and certainly give a pretty good kick.Tearfund Tour of Scotland 26th May to 1st June 2013

I have read a few times in the book "Le Tour" by Wheatcroft, a history of the Tour that the riders would eat liquid rice. I'm not sure what that is.does a mix with oats and bananas makes a good combination for a home made power bar?
Personally, I don't think there is a problem with oats in an energy bar but I do believe some 'experts' might say oats at least for an endurance event is not ideal because it digests too quickly (I think I got that right, perhaps the opposite but I don't think so).
Creatine really is something for a lot of research, I've heard a few things, even someone saying it just fills your muscles with water to make them look bigger.
Caffeine can give many people stomach aches. Though I don't think these two substances are dangerous, there are some cons to them as far as I'm concerned but I'm one of those people that practically need some caffeine to just feel like I'm wide awake.
What i think is decent ride-fare is brown rice syrup, they put it in Cliff Bars, it probably has similar products to the gels out there.0 -
I have tried the Zipvit gels and I think they're disgusting but effective. Horrible as I think they are I usually have two in a 100 mile ride as taste is the least of my probs! But, I've just tried Gu gels - the chocolate one - and it is heaven. It's just like eating a chocolate mousse. It's got caffeine in it but I'm not sure of the quantity. The caffiene comes from cola nut according to the label. It's worth a try if you love chocolate but I've suspicion they might be a bit too sickly. I'm not sure how many I could stomach.0

I've been using Torq energy gels for a few months now. They taste great and have a cough mixture "consistency" compared to the usual gel like alternatives. The ones with added guarana (natural caffiene) also pack 89mg of caffiene with their high carb content.Bald is Beautiful0
