Until this Golf, each one of my bikes was worth more than the total value of all the cars I've ever owned added together
My bikes are rubbish, but my 14 yr old has 3 bikes, each worth more than my car. Something wrong there I think.
Suppose I could sell them and buy a better car.
Or sell him. Wonder if the pope's still around?
Moving them whole is hard, best to sell uhm in bits ...

Mine made me poo myself a bit on the a470 at 130mph and still pulling! had to back off then as it was just being silly to be honest. But wantes a chance to see how the diesel would pull.. And bugger me do they0 -

there is a 90, 105, 130 and 150 version, all good i have the 150 in mine so don't get the same economy as yourself0 -

It's plenty quick enough for me really, I'm more after something affordable and reliable than quick.
I did nearly opt for a very nice, very fast beemer though
It was a fair bit older, and not as cheap to run, insure, or maintain though.0 -
on a serious note though, the vw diesel engines are awesome....i do think that they are overpriced for what they are, but stil a real nice car none the less..0

Actually, it was easily the best car in it's price range.
New, yeah, I can understand the "overpriced" bit. But then again, the interior quality compared to say, a Ford, is just in a different league. for feels cheap and is about 2K more expensive.
My old man got a blinder of a bargain at the start of the year. With the scrappage deal, he got a brand new Golf TDI Mk 6, all the trimmings, for 11 grand

that does seem like a real good deal, i suppose at the minute i've just got a bee in my bonnet about the price of new cars in this catagory, golf, focus astra etc..for instance the ad for the new astra quotes 20k for a 1.4t sri, i mean come on, who in their right mind would pay that for an astra? on the radio the other day i heard an ad for the new golf match with free bluetooth and some other free stuff for the "amazing price of only £17,500" well that's not amazing to me....0 -
good choice yeehaa 8)
i've got an '04 golf tdi, i've got the 105 bhp model aswell but it does feel like it's more. i've got a roof rack for the bikes and the boot is really big. can quite easily fit all my stuff in there and it does around 600 miles on a tank of fuel
also it's cheap road tax for some reason aswell0 -
I'd agree with all the chat on here, good choice, and very good engines, I've got the 2.0 golf diesel in my car and it is sweet as a nut0

Pretty good for a diesel"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

You've made a good choice in the Golf. I drive a Bora (pretty much the same car, but a saloon) with the 130 pd engine. It'll get 65mpg on a long run.
Just be careful with the clutch - they don't last long if you drive like a cheesewand. Drive it sensibly though, and it'll last for years.
Enjoy!0 -
Yeeha, the VW TDi's rock
\
I've had two, I had the Golf 5, GTi TDi 150BHP and that had the loudest dump valve I ever heard on a standard turbo diesel. I did just under 200K miles on that over 3 years, commuting from Bristol to Buckinghamshire daily. It never skipped a beat.
The current one is a GT-TDi 170 and now that I've hit the 60,000 Mile mark it's starting to go very nicely indeed. I hand it back to the leasing company in October when I return from my holiday.
From my experience the VW TD engines seem to take a long time to run in and when they do, they just go forever. Just use decent oil in them and they'll whistle Dixie eternally0 -
Oh yeah, POIDH! I forgot about that.
I'll get some shots later. Got some new stuff on the bike too.0 -
new stuffs on the bike eh?0

Pics of a golf? Wouldnt bother tbh0
