In-ear Headphones

My trusty Sennheiser CX500s seem to be starting to pack up after over a year of service (the sound from the right ear has become much quieter) so I am looking for a replacement.

They've done well and I would be quite happy to get another paid but I was just wondering if there is anything else better around? I have a pair of Goldring DR150s for home so these will just be used out and about for my ipod. I'm looking at spending up to £30, these look like a bit of a steal.

Any thoughts?

I'd avoid Ebay for headphones. Tonnes of fakes about.
  • skull candys are really good, however they tend to die after about 7 or 8 months. they are awesome whilst they work thou, and they come in amazing colours too :)
  • Skullcandys are crap, I'd stick with Sennheiser if I were you

My brother just bought some 'beats tour by Dr. Dre' from eBay for something stupid like £27 including postage. They arrived all sealed in the orignal wrapping with warranty info and all. These things are absolutely AMAZING, better than my Skull Kandys (which I've had so many pairs I've lost count), my dad's Creatives and my Phillips. The sound quality is excellent with deep powerful bass and really crisp mid and highs, its like having some massive speakers in your ears. I see why they retail for £120. Oh and they look AWESOME :P

Probably fake. If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.

£120 for in-ears? Unless they're custom moulded then that's the greatest bargain since the Jeff Jones 3d Spaceframe.

    dont they say tuth?

like aled off of radio 1

The best pair of in-ear phones I'd ever had, are the Koss Spark Plug's.

I bought my first set in Canada, for $10, and loved them so much! They lasted about 2 years, before they died. I use them for running, chilling, on buses, planes.... Everywhere!

A real deep, bassy sound, and the big squishy ear buds are very comfortable.

    Just buy some.

right, and not once did you not clock that the word "tooth" is pronounced "tooth", or in fact, that there's about a million differing "welsh" accents?

My brother emailed the seller asking whether they were genuine and how come he could sell them so cheaply. The reply was that he had a supplier in the far east where they are manufactured. The build quality is far too good to be fakes and so is the sound
  • I'd go for these if I was buying now

I think RRP is well over £100

how easy is it to tell the difference between a 15 quid pair of earbuds compared to a 100 quid set, it sounds like an obsecne ammount of cash to spend on earphones!!

its the good old diminishing returns, just like bike bits.
  • Difficult but easier if they are a good fit for you. I've got a pair of Klipsch ones and they are great sounding ear phones but only when I hold them in the corrrect place if I move my fingers they move slightly out of place and I could be listening to any £10 set.

With in-ears there' a definite cut-off after a certain point (where it just becomes a scam)
The one real reason to go expensive with in-ears is so you can have them moulded to your ear.

Same thing with cables. NOBODY needs monster cables.

  • The only complaints I've heard are from people who like a lot of bass. They get better and better as they "run in" and I've got a graphic equaliser on my Rockbox'd Sansa any way. I'm tempted and I've got loads of in ear phones already.

Possible. But you'd be surprised how good fakes sound if you don't know what genuine ones sound like. I've got a pair of Sennheissers that I'm 99% sure are fake and they look like genuine ones.
  • sennheiser cx300-II are the ones. cheap as, and highly rated everywhere. i love mine.
