But i grew up with punk where, as we know, there are no more heroes
The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

Maradona - still remember watching as a 10 year old his wonder goal against England in the 1986 World Cup QF - his second one wasn't bad either................

Never forgiven him for pulling back Trevor Francis, how did we (England) not get a penalty for that?

Don't remember that? do remember Lineker's 'miss' until years later I realised it was actually nicked off his head by the Argie defender

Off on a tangent - was watching England v Holland from 1988 Euros on ESPN classic the other day - even though they got humped, that England team played good football compared to your current mob. Hard to believe the stick poor Bobby Robson (RIP) got in your gutter media for a QF and SF at the World Cup

They were my childhood bedroom poster boys!

Bill "Super Foot" Wallace, christ that brings back some memories.

For me it was Jackie Chan and Sho Kosugi, to name a few.

Tony Cottee, Steve Cram, Daley Thompson and Indiana Jones for me.

Cycling wise - LeMond, Millar and Roche

I still want to be Indiana Jones more than the others.

yea me too except for Boardman. Phil Ligget was unashamedley biased towards English speaking riders and I remember cheering on Lemond in 86 against that nasty Frenchman going back on his promise! I would also add Hampsten to the list.

    Lemond and Indurain for cycling.

    Wayne Gretzky for everything else.
  • Lucho Herrera (cafe de columbia) . No one could keep with him when the road ramped up.
  • Forgot to mention Bernard Hinalt. The most entertaining rider of the tour of all time for me.
  • Chris Boardman and Juli Furtado.
  • George Best, Eddie Merckx, and Sean Kelly.
.. who said that, internet forum people ?
  • Well it wasn´t actually childhood but I still remeber an article in The Face about Indurain. The headline "The fittest man in the world" seemed so cool for not even a newbie who didn´t know anything about cycling.
    "Wo ist mein Fahrrad?"

  • Robert Millar
    &
    Brian McClair
  • Not got one - I only got into cycling aged 43.

If it was *first* cycling hero then mine's probably Basso because of the Overcoming DVD. (Before we knew what we now know of course.)
  • Anyone in Raleigh/Banana but mainly Chris Walker. Nice to see him in Procycling this month.

    After that Pascal Richard.
  • Eric Heiden for both his speedskating and cycling
Royal Robbins, Yvon Chouinard, Warren Harding, Jim Bridwell (climbing)
