Only went in for a browse but ended up buying the base layer pants and the winter gloves. Very impressed with the gloves - feel as good as the Madison Element gloves that I bought last winter.[/url]FCN 2 to 80

I bought one of their HRMs last year - it's been pretty reliable and is still working fine. I had a look at the new cycle stuff today, but all I came out with was a pizza, a tub of marg and a packet of chocolate digestives.....0 -
I bought the arm warmers and the socks, arm warmers are pretty good, don't slip at all.0

Just went back and bought the underwear set in large. The others from last year were non stretchy so needed a perfect fit (not using leggings as too tight, top is too loose lol so probably better as a below jersey above underwear set. These are stretchy.
Tried on waterproof jacket, looks great for £20, with side and rear pockets (rear comes in handy when raining and don't want to open jacket to get to my jersey/jacket underneath) however neck hole is too large, concerned water will run down neck or from rainfall.Say... That's a nice bike..

fluff. wrote:Got one of the 30% merino tops, for 15 quid it's not bad atall, certainly good enough for the odd commute and some off bike wear. The 100% merino one from Rapha is 90 quid, and that's the clearance price.. which is more than I want to spend on a top at the moment.
I agree - suggesting that a £15 top from Aldi is a false economy when compared to the over priced gear from Rapha is a bit unfair:)
Luxury brands like Rapha are fine for those who can afford it...0 -
Just got a pair of winter leggings size medium, I'm 34-36 and they fit great, I'm a short leg length and these are not ridiculously long on me. Also bought the wind proof water resistant jersey in medium I'm a 42 chest the fit is snug but that is what I was after. Tried the large on in the store but arms were a bit floppy.
This was at the Bretton store in Peterborough plenty of jerseys left but not many leggings or water proof jackets.
also plenty of gloves left.0 -
I bought some trousers, very pleased with the fit and the pad looks good. Also got a jersey which seems ok, good for the money. Lastly I thought I'd give the HR monitor a go for £10.00, quality seems ok but I haven't managed to get the thing to work
Does anyone know how to get the HR monitor to work?0 -
Got the red l/s winter jersey, £8.99... hope to try it out tomorrow.0

Got the black and white winter jersey, looks good. White front/black back/red pipping.
Also got the black jacket, the red one looks way better, but had none in my size.2010 Specialized Allez Elite

I don't think anyone is suggesting Rapha as an alternative to Aldi. I personally wouldn't suggest Rapha as an alternative to anything. By all means buy the top, it looks ok - but don't kid yourself you are getting a merino top for £15 - cos you ain't....0 -

No your getting 30% of a merino top and 70% of a polyester top0 -
Got the winter trousers, the red jersey and the gloves. They're all pretty comfortable. The gloves are very warm indeed.
I almost bought a rack for my new commuter. It was only a tenner. Weighs a ton though. And I haven't actually bought a new commuter yet so I might not need one.
I might go back and get the base layers, are they any good?0 -
you mean the underwear? yeah seem good, stretchy material.Say... That's a nice bike..

Went to have another look in Aldi today and was very surprised at the amount of stuff still available. Picked up another winter jersey and gloves for the commute plus another baselayer top.
Decided against the "merino" top that was left though, even in my size looks like twenty blokes and assorted characters had tried it on

bought the merino, will let you know if it was worth a punt0

Called in at the Barnsley branch on Saturday and they're still stuffed to the brim with all the offers. Either cyclists in Barnsley are high rollers, or they're arent any!0

Just bought Aldi hiking jacket, really good for £25. Windproof, waterproof, loads of pockets, hood, and fleece liner.Say... That's a nice bike..

Definitely worth the punt, not the tightest fitting around the middle but seems good quality.I like white bikes0 -
I bought one of the vertical cycle stands. With a view to hang the other halfs and my road bikes up in the hall. She isnt so into the idea however as having a bike at head hight is quite imposing.
I was about to take it back for a refund, but thought to offer it here first? Litterally assembled and then dissassembled to put back in its box. No damage, but the finish isnt the best.
Anyone in the Reading area want it for what I paid? ie £30?0 -
At long last the weather is right to try out the "Merino" top, good fit, quite toasty but not wind-proof. Should have worn a gilet, which would also have provided the pockets missing on the top.
Still, came home well content to be greeted by Mrs SG with "don't think I'm washing a wool top that has only been worn once" Hope it doesn't get too stinky. The older I get the faster I was0 -
I tried the winter cycling jacket last night - brilliant stuff! Was nice and warm all the way back home and only £15 too.0

What are you lot going to wear when it starts getting really cold?I like white bikes0
