New stuff.

Merino top £15
Mini pump £3

The waterproof jackets don't look too great, the neck is too loose, water will go down your neck.
Say... That's a nice bike..

  • in store only. No problems with winter trousers, they're windproof and warm. Winter jackets are wind proof, as is gillet (not on offer this time round) Thermel underwear is weird size though, leggings are really tight but top fine (on shoulders, but baggy around stomach) which is weird cos I've got a little bit of a stomach.

  • For anyone thinking about the Aldi bike stand - and I was too - after much internet trawling I managed to find one that appears to be exactly the same - its "ProStor PLB-2R Gravity Bike Stand".

I found reviews for it on Amazon (1 on UK, loads on USA) - I won't cloud anyone else's judgement but reading between the lines its obivous you get what you pay for. Some love it , some hate it , generally seems to fall over unless supported.

I won't be buying one, just have to keep savong for something more robust.

    Hope this helps anyone else,

yeah I thought so by looking at the picture, I'd probably bolt it directly into the concrete

  • I'd like to buy the Merino top £15. Is this strictly in-store or are ALDI likely to change their minds?

Bear in mind the Aldi 'merino' top is only 30% merino - whereas most other merino base layers from the likes of Rapha or Howies are 100%. I know it's only £15, compared to £30-40, but you are definitely getting what you pay for, ie not much.....

Your signature is reflected in the clothes you buy. You must be stoned/p1ssed to buy from Aldi, newboy.
  • Plenty of stock in Northampton store this am. The long sleeve shirt is a good fit for me (ahem, large) in red and a stylish white/black with red piping. The Merino shirt (35%) is very retro, to my eyes the white bar across the chest seems so "Old School" to me. The winter gloves are a gauntlet style which suits me as sleeves tend to ride up with me.

Noticed that the shoes are "road style" which is a change from previous offerings. Again the products are hard to fault for VFM but you get what you pay for.

BTW the Spanish olive oil on offer looked good too :?
The older I get the faster I was
  • I went along to Aldi today. There were lots of people looking through the cycling clothing but I didn't buy any.

I did buy a Cucina Campagnolo salami though! I'm looking forward to trying it.
  • Called in to have a look-see and bought the red long-sleeved winter jersey, cap & overshoes (overshoes a little tight but the cap is a good one) and a couple of the long-sleeved base layers. The base layers aren't bad at all.

There was plenty of stuff left at lunchtime in my "local" Aldi in Willerby.

Got one of the 30% merino tops, for 15 quid it's not bad atall, certainly good enough for the odd commute and some off bike wear. The 100% merino one from Rapha is 90 quid, and that's the clearance price.. which is more than I want to spend on a top at the moment.

I'm going back tomorrow for the lights. None in stock today.
  • The lights are pants, better to buy Smart 1/2W LED and 1W front LED. Gloves are good for £5, but don't look "really cold winter gloves"

    My missus picked up...

    Overshoes / cap combo
    Gloves
    L/S Winter top
    Winter trouser bids.

Bottomline, they aren't going to win any fashion awards, and hopefully they won't fall to pieces, but first impressions are very good.

Was the heart rate monitor like the one on the website? In the Southampton store they were totally different, and the box said "Blood Pressure Monitor", so I left it. I actually went in for the arm & leg warmers, ended up spending 100 quid and forgot what I went in for :x

Popped back after work to find the place had been raped and pillaged. Nothing left except lights, "Blood Pressure Monitors", and brown MTB shorts in XL
