Ian, what issues did/do Vaconsolei have?!?

A couple of questionable riders. But I was sort of alluding that there must be more to it than that considering how looked over they were.

You refering to Leukemans and Hoogerland? (I hope not!)

  • So, assuming AZ isn't dishing out payback for Armstrong's Giro behaviour, what is the RCS's motivation behind the Radio Shack non-invites?

Do Davey or Moray have a theory, other than the one put forward that feelings were hurt, when RS, in the interest of their sponsors, placed California over the Giro?

Or indeed taking it upon himself to be the rider to go back to the comm's car and deliver the peloton's message to the Chief Judge.
After one lap on the 16-lap circuit course in downtown Milan, seven-time Tour de France champion offered to play peacemaker. He rode back to the UCI official’s car and a compromise was quickly hammered out: the time would be neutralized but there would be a sprint in the end.

I watched the avondettappe with Hoogerland during the tour and he was surprisingly candid about the whole drugs thing. Said there were riders he definitely didn't like to see winning for that.

I'm as cynical as any reasonable fan, but I'd like to think Jonny wouldn't be one.

Then again, it's never stopped me supporting riders so maybe I wouldn't. It would just be a little odd since he was so candid about the whole thing.

Didn't Hoogerland get booted out of Rabobank because of his testosterone levels?

Yip. His nickname is Johnny Testosterone or something. I think they're saying the levels are "naturally high"

That doesn't show what role the other riders had, so how can you decide whether Armstrong was the "main" instigator or not?

If you re-write that so it makes sense, I might have a go at answering it. Removing the parentheses, I get "Do Davey or Moray have a theory when RS placed California over the Giro?"

    It's a shame really.

Both Leukemans and Hoogerland are good value in bike races.

    Sorry about the rubbish structure.
No, I just wondered if there was an alternative theory to the two already put forward.
    I'll take it there isn't.

Johnny is amusing but a bit thick

Looking at their 09 roster, they had CL and no one else will touch him with a barge pole, despite being winner of Paris-Nice mountains jersey. Now they hire Ricco. Odd.

:P. I've always been keen on them. They're everything fdj aren't. Then again, they have dark blue overshoes which explains why you're not keen.:P

Yes it did. Radioshack were very keen to ride the Giro only to change their tune when no invite was forthcoming.

Payback time for LA's behaviour at the Giro last year.

So when they sent a letter saying they didnt want to go they really did want to go................em um ok sure

He cant he is speculating it has been said Di Luca was the main man , maybe he was maybe not or more than likely just like LA Di Luca was part of a group of riders. But it suits the purposes of this arguement to make out LA to be the main instigator.

The invitation was lost in the post apparently .........lol highly unlikley .Anyway seems like they had struck a contract in January to ride the race when they informed RCS they would not be riding the Giro . So where does the "its all about Lance " theory go from here ?

The mythical letter that only came to light after no invite was forthcoming? The same letter for which we only have Johan Bruyneel's word that it actually existed?

I'll do the rolling eyes thing too now if you like?

That's why I asked if you had a further theory.
I'm not convinced it's all about Lance, rather that during last year's Giro, the relationship turned sour and was simply the kick off point for this year's feud. Diplomacy has been in short supply, from both sides.

Now, it seems, we may have another case of attempted media manipulation.
The Velonews story, (other than a single comic tweet) has not been picked up by any other source.
So again, it seems possible that the "lost in the post" angle is nothing more than spin.
A holding tactic while the UCI try to arbitrate a deal, whereby the Shack get to ride Lombardy, probably at the cost of an Italian wildcard.

We've already seen them intervene this year at Paris-Roubaix insisting that Acqua e Sapone and Androni Giocattoli get a place instead of Topsport and Landbouwkrediet because of the World rankings.

Why would you hear about it though before the end of March, RCS was hardly going to announce it were they. RCS decided to make play of the fact RS were not invited and it kinda backfired on them when the fact of the letter dated 23rd January was made public. 1-0 to RS on that one.
