That Cotic was a heavy old bird. This one should be much nicer to ride. Personally, I'd want a triple ring setup, but whatever floats your boat.

Wasn't that heavy! Just too stiff for a 140mm trail bike.

    160mm ;)

37lb!!! LIke pedalling a VW up the hills.....

unless you were being towed by a 335d
  • 37lbs lmfao

how come you just didn't make it lose weight?
  • This is real real nice :) just the kind of thing I'm looking to build just need to land lucky finding a frame like you did :/ the wheels will set this off a treat :D

    Another awesome build mate!

Mate i'm not even joking here... your scales a shafted! there is no way that thing weighed the same as my NS!

And it was a 140mm frame that could take a 160mm fork.. not the other way round

we do get a bit jealous in here about folk chopping and changing their bikes dont we!
  • Ben - you forget it was carrying all the kit from the Sanction that was heavy and durable kit, my scales aint shafted as that was weighed at the LBS... ;) LOL

Why not heavy as the Surge? was a steel frame as well ;)

Yes, I am glad I chose the white Stans rims, with black spokes and red hubs - going to look awesome, I rode the elite version of this frame, which was not half as good component wise and it was a total blast to ride.. canae wait to get this one out :)

Can go tubeless with the Olympic rims (they are not flow as I thought) so may try that out next.

All that's left now is index the gears (runs full length hose which is great) and fit the wheels, have to remove the shock as the rear mech and rear brake cable run through the shock mounts....

    Then shes done!!!!
  • If he says it was 37lbs, I've got no reason to doubt him.

I remember when I first built up the 456 around christmas time, with the DH wheels and the Marz 66s, that was about 37-38lbs too, and it was just awful going up anything.

I agree that you could have just put it on a diet, but completely understand that you didn't want to do that.

I get accused of under-weighing the Marin then accused over adding weight to the Cotic.. :?

Surge frame was heavier for starters!

It was, dont get me wrong but I never 'Gelled' with it TBH, even a 17" felt slightly on the large size... they do come up quite big. Wasn't used to the weight and although it was lovely, just wasnt for me (are they ever LOL)

At least with this one, I know what it rides like and what size I need... :)

You've not got a good cheesewand in you.......yet
  • New front wheel turned up today from Merlin (ordering 1x per week as I am poor now)

    Hope Pro II hub (Red)
    Stans ZTR Olympic (white)
Black spokes (cant remember which ones)

Light as you like TBH, have this morning ordered the rear (should be here next Friday)

    img00070201009101903.jpg

And due to the Deity bars being totally wrong for me (apart from looking nice) I ordered some FSA Gravity Maximus bars in white - nicely made and not 'too' heavy..

    img00071201009101904.jpg

Also ordered one of these this morning to replace the black one (I am a whore for colour schemes)

    811125965main159.jpg

Tonight I am ordering some red Superstar nanos and some other finishing parts for the build (cable inners/chainstay protector/biketape)

So the next update hopefully shall be next weekend with a finished product :)

That's gonna look sweet mate. I agree with you on the BFe's climbing abilities. Noticed it switching back from the Mmmbop, but my backs thanking me for it. I'm considering dropping the revs from 140 to 130, to see if it helps with the climbs.

Nano's in red look amazing in the flesh too!

definately helps on the P7... Uturn revs were the best investment I made.

If only i had u-turn! Will be a TF tuned jobbie i think,
  • those wheels are pimp :)
  • Shes very nearly done....... the eagle eyed amongst you will notice a few things are missing.. :)

    Namely:

REAR TUBE: (presta valve snapped so 2x new WTB DH tubes on way. I know it's a massive OCD thing but I have to have matching tubes  )
CHAIN: Have a brand new KMC X9 SL gold ready to go on
REAR MECH: XT Shadow rear mech is now fitted since photo taken
GEAR CABLES: I have 3 meters of white goodridge hose ready to go on (this frame takes full length outer, however I have ordered some new inners and am waiting for them.

Also went and bought some new ano red cable crimps...

Anyway, she's lovely. The size is spot on and will be perfect for chucking around the local trails... I am loving the kit on it, the main thing is the Marzocchi forks and there realiability issues... however they are under warranty so..... and also someone above mentioned a mod that makes them super reliable.... but will void warranty.... hmmmm

The Pro II on ZTR Olympics are remarkably light and uber-pimp..... are shod with Nevegal 2.3 dual compound folding.

Anyway, here she is.. hope you likey... everything is brand new so it's effectively a brand new and unridden steed.... 8)

Your rear tyre appears to be flat. Only at the bottom though so if you turn it round, It should be fine
