    The climb:

Nibali did really well to make up all that distance after Anton got the gap

Menchov doesn't need no stinkin' bonifications!

Four stages in and a multi-GT winner is already lurking at the door of the top 10 without having stuck his nose out front. Do other riders not notice him?
To paraphrase Verbal Kint "the greatest trick Menchov ever pulled was to convincing the peleton he didn't exist"

Having said that, he's as likely to fall out of the team bus tomorrow and sprain his ankle

That finish was a bit of a beast. I nearly opted for Cav for the stage as the Vuelta site had it listed as a plain stage but fortunately checked the profile. It goes to show how a short steep finish after a couple of well placed hills can really create a great stage rather than relying on several massive climbs.

Considering many people (myself included) think of the Vuelta as long boring roads the start to this year's has been excellent. The Tour is starting to look a bit staid compared to the other GTs with its tried and tested formula of a flat opening week, a few days in the mountains, a couple of flat stages, a few more in the mountains, a TT and a flat final stage. Here we are in a GT where the main contenders are showing their hands within the first few days of the race and are actually going for it. It may be the route or it could be that there are so many more contenders for the GC, I don't know but it is making for a great race so far.
  • If it carries on like this then this Vuleta could give this years Giro a run for it's money!
