As above, not sure if this has been posted before but I'm just wondering what you lot use to transport your bike's around etc.
I'm seriously tempted in selling my civic type r after trying to fit 2 bikes in the back last week it's so unpractical, i'd love a cheap van or something where I have more room.

A 2008 Focus. Would prefer an estate or something similar.0

Land Rover Defender! Either that or a m4 Golf GTI with roof carriers....I still can't understand why I want a singlespeed steel hardtail when I already have a full-susser with 27 gears.0

we get 2 bikes in the back of our megane 225 (taking one wheel out of each) so id keep the type r and persevere (guessing either the current or previous civic must be as least as big as the megane with the seats down)
my thinking is - might be a bit irritating to get the bikes in and out of a car like that but you dont half get to your riding spot quickly !

Fiat Scudo van, actually my work van but you can get three fully assembled bikes in with ease along with everything else you'll need, surprisingly comfy to drive as well, although it can be a bit cramped with three blokes up front.Trek Fuel EX8 Rootbeer, mmm beer!0

2 bikes in the back of my Focus with wheels off and the seats down. (Was also doable in my old saxo!)My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0

Ford S-Max. Despite it being a 4 wheeled Tardis I don't put the bikes in the car, just stick them on a roof mounted carrier and have loadsa room and no muck inside"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Do roof mounted carriers affect your mpg much?0

From what I've heard yes.
In some cases quite considerably, but its the price you pay for taking your bike.0 -
A 2002 Focus Estate here, with the really puny turbodiesel in it. Carries 2 bikes without needing to take the wheels off, though it's a bit of a faff and much easier to do with the front wheel off one of the bikes. I've got the back seats permanently down and the load bay lined with foam padding and carpet. It's not exciting to drive but it gives good economy and it's not a bad place to spend a couple of hours. And since there's not many cars that can come close to the performance of my motorbike and I can't afford any of them, going for performance seemed daft.
Also, it has a flat boot edge, so you can comfortably sit in the back with the bootlid up keeping the rain off you, which is lovelyUncompromising extremist0 -
a 55 Plate Leon FR TDi 150.
And with the seats down in the back i can fit 2 bikes and camping gear for 2 for a week or two, and the 2 said people with minimal effort.
No idea how your having problems with your type R plenty of room for bikes and gear in there0 -
Old BMW estate. Used to use an old BMW saloon... Frames on the back seat, wheels in the boot!0

One that could easily fail it MOT tomorrow for the last time before I consign it to the great pig iron shop in the sky.
Ah well....4 years from a £500 car is cheap motoring!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Golf GT TDI with Thule Aerobar and Thule 591 bike carriers
Land Rover Discovery rear loaded or Thule 591 carriers.0 -
320 coupe plus a towbar mounted wheel support rack, or a 88" series 3 with the same rack.
Knocks a chunk off the mpg but meh, better that than a car full of mud.0 -
As the second picture in my signature suggests, the inbred goes in the panda.
The bike does too. No effect on MPG but the car does get covered in clag, but at £5k brand new who gives a shoot? I've even dumped the company car and now get mileage and allowance instead. I could buy a new one every year!Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.
Who are you calling inbred?0 -
