3 men in the break. Delage, Ramirez and Johnnie Walker. Mickael Buffaz was there too, but he crashed and bust his collarbone.

It's hot, too.

And they finish in the Spanish Blackpool. Nice. What's the peloton doing tonight? Couple of pints and a takeaway curry?

Oh the joys of the well drilled teams.

    Break goes, contenders clearly marked.

HTC ride on the front the entire time.

Lead out Cav who takes the win with ease.

Cav praises the wonderful work of his team.

    Stage over.

    Glad the mountains start tomorrow.

Turkey is nicer to look at than Marbella.

Lampre are giving HTC an easy ride here.

Cofidis, wtf. Duque fancies his chances against Cav, Farrar and Petacchi?

  • Hutarovic by half a bike length. Time for flying helmets, or is it too hot?

It seems Cavendish was vomiting during the stage as he struggled to cope with the heat.

I think he has grown since then a bit..

Freire is not very good with names. When he rode his first races in France, he was wondering who the insanely popular "Allez" was. Todays winner was also unknown to him:
"The winner surprised me, I do not know I had never even heard his name, "admitted the Spaniard Oscar Freire triple world champion. "But we must watch him, because he just beat one of the best sprinters currently Cavendish. (Translated from l'Equipe by Google)

Cav seems to have bad luck when wearing a tour leaders' jersey.

I'm actually in Spain on holiday at the moment, stopping in Alcala La Real which is being visited on Tuesdays stage. It's seriously seriously hot here at the moment. I have no idea how the British cyclists can cope in this heat. It's ranging from 38 to 40 degrees from mid day. It's all I can do to walk from the villa to the hammock at the bottom of the garden!

Bravo Hutarovich! Kinda cool, eh? But that's what being a former Lanterne Rouge gives you- an inner toughness blah blah blah.

And what do you mean, never heard of him, Mr Freire? Even I had heard of him- been in Procycling (or was that Cycle Sport?) n all- apparently a really nice guy.

So, my poor darling Mr Cavendish suffered horribly in the extreme heat, but he'll always have tomorrow. Yauheni may go on to greater things, maybe not, but at least he'll always have one grand tour win on his palmares.

    For what?
  • Not many had heard of Freire when he won his first World Champion jersey either.
