    2008 with Metallica headlining :D

Very nearly broke my nose in the pits, but loved every minute of it!
Did want to go this year, seeing that Blink 182 is headlining Sunday, though couldn't get the time off work :(

EDIT: Hatebreed too!?!? Now that is some angry music.

Given the line-up for Reading over the last few years, that is wee-wee poor IMO. Arcade Fire as main stage headliners? lol. Not sure what Paramore are doing 2nd from top either.

This years line up is so much better than last years. Arcade Fire are a huge band and are definitely deserved of a headline slot.

GnR - shadow of the band they once were. Probably wont even turn up.
Arcade Fire - I remember when Reading used to be about rock music
    Blink 182 - srsly?

Of course there are some decent bands dotted about the lineup, but it's weak, no two ways about it.

Better than 2009? Three words....Faith No More.

I stopped going to festivals when there started to be only one or two decent bands in the line up.

Instead...I just go to those bands actual gigs.

i think the thing that annoys me with festivals recently is most of the bands that go on are drunk, there performance are then poor, but everyone loves it because of the huge crowd atmosphere.

i think a band provides a service, if i went to work drunk my boss would kill me, why should a band be different, can't they wait for a few hours for once they have been on stage?

I refuse to pay a good wack of cash to see someone fall about drunk on stage. not all bands are like this but alot of them these days.

Reading, southern shite ! Its Leeds where you wanna be, leaving at 9am in the morning. :D

I took the train past Leeds to go to Reading, because I didn't want to get robbed  Went to Leeds once, it was OK but nothing like as good a chat as you usually get at Reading.

And for me, this year, was the best lineup for ages. Sure the sunday night was weak as hell but other than that there was barely a moment when there wasn't someone I wanted to see, sometimes 3 or 4 at a time. I'd have gone and seen all the saturday headliners if I could, but had to bin all the rest for Bad Religion.

PS, Weezer were amazing 8) Don't remember them being that good the other times I saw 'em.

Ha, its not that bad, granted on the sunday night their are alot of idiots abouts burning shit and carrying on, but on a whole its good crack.
I wasn't overly convinced with the line up to start with, but like you've said there was pretty much somebody decent on all day.
Highlights for me were, King Blues / Gaslight Anthem / Weezer / Blink 182 / Cypruss Hill / Biffy Clyro / Gallows.
Top weekend (with good weather to boot !! haha)

Well, the one year we went to Leeds was 2002, the year when it properly went off... Was sort of fun at the time hanging around on the edge of the riot, checking out the burning food stalls as the big gas cans blew up, etc... Especially watching the riot squad arrive, deploy, then leg it and someone firing flares at a police helicopter. Good times! But, well, maybe not again.

I just started doing a list of bands I thought were great but it was going to be very long so I'll not bother. Like I say, Weezer walked it to first place, Biffy... Well, I love Biffy and I was a wee bit miffed they didn't play any older stuff at all but actually I can't complain too much, it was still ace. Frank Turner was great but maybe a wee bit safe, more or less the same show he did last year I think. Bad Religion were a wee bit handicapped by the sound but just occasionally, it was incredibly good. Atari Teenage Riot were unlistenable noise but GOOD unlistenable noise, made me feel a bit old though, bloody Alec Empire doesn't age but it's about a decade since I saw them live. Oh and Crazy Arm, new one for me but that was ace.

Oh and GNR I thought were not bad at all, not as good as they used to be but certainly no joke other than coming on an hour late then complaining about not getting their full set, fanny that he is.

i dont tend to like live music, there are too many hippies singing with their eyes closed at those places.

however, i did enjoy some live music at the mathew street festival, no big acts as such but it was super dooper, my fave part was the suit case getting thrown around in the crowd at the tunnel stage closely followed by various items of clothing being thrown around shortly after.

some poor funker must have been thredders at losing all of his clobber!

I was at Leeds, amazing weekend it was too! Highlights for me were The Libertines, Frank Turner, Blink 182 (soundtrack of my childhood etc), Mumford and Sons, Streetlight and Pendulum - their music is a bit shite but the atmosphere in there was incredible! Random Hand, The King Blues, The Gaslight Anthem and The Maccabees are worthy of a mention too.

  • Best bands were Hatebreed and Sick Of It All, insane crowds. Others that were great include The Skints, Gallows, Cancer Bats, NoFX [both sets]

Kings Of Leon - Shadow of the band they once were
Arctic Monkeys - Not terrible but by no means good
Radiohead - I remember when Reading used to be about rock music

    This year was definitely better

I dunno, I think this year's main stage headliners were worse, but then I thought last year's were pretty bad too. And I love Radiohead, but they were pretty much completely awful that night so I wandered off to the Lostprohpets instead.

Tilt, did you actually see Faith No More that night? They limped through the set... We saw them a couple of nights before in Edinburgh and they were abslutely godly so the Reading set was an incredible let down.

  • I thought they were good last year, but not even having FNM on the line up makes up for how shit nearly all of mainstage was.
